OK, how is changing my Facebook profile pic to a cartoon character going to do ANYTHING about stopping child abuse? Why do people post status updates proclaiming they are against something that no one in their right mind would be for (and if they were for it, they sure wouldn't tell anyone)?

I mean, I changed my pic anyway, because I felt like it (FYI: when you look up April O'Neill on Google, you get a shitload of porn).

I am going to make status updates like:

"Post this as your status update if you are against the annihilation of mankind by hostile aliens."

"Post this as your status update to show you are taking a stand against being horribly murdered by the Candyman."

"Post this as your status update to show that Americans are a united front against poison ivy."

I do not do all the stupid games or any other of the "do this" on facebook. It just seems like abunch of busy work on face book.

I don't either. I finally blocked Farmville a couple weeks ago because I don't play it and 90% of my notifications and recently several wall posts were people giving me stuff.

It's just like the bra color/purse thing for breast cancer. It does no good, but it sure makes people feel good.

Yeah I had a bunch of so called friends ask me to join FB. (same group that I was in that RPed) and the only thing they sent was stupid game stuff. I'd see them on game night and they'd talk about how busy they were at work or some-such....they were playing on FB all day!

Yeah, I gave that one up pretty quickly. I do have another FB account that just for my business and I do use that one. No games though, just fabric and quilty talk.

I do recall seeing someone do the picture thing and post something about it being cartoon week BEFORE it became about child abuse. I think someone hijacked the chain.

It's just an excuse to relive your childhood memories and remind yourself that the cartoons we watched were far better than todays cartoons. I've changed my profile pic to the worlds greatest secret agent, Dangermouse!

i am exactly the same.I have no problem with people playing games like Farmville if it makes them happy but I get fed up with people trying to drag me into it all the time.

Yeah, I changed my profile picture, mainly to see if I was the only person in the world to remember Sheriff <Ping-ping-piiiiiiiiiiing!> Ricochet Rabbit.

I use movie stills most of the time anyway, and change my picture about once a week or so to a different still, so adding in a cartoon character...why the hell not?

As for "slacktivisim," yes, but if I'm also raising money for a friend's high school project, collecting toys for a hospital toy drive, and helping to provide necessities for the children at a homeless shelter, I've earned a little.
