  • Music: They just don't....

My son woke me two days ago, nothing unusual in that. He's a big fan of a musical group that has gotten worse the longer they produce albums, and was wearing one of their shirts.

"They just don't make music like they used to!" Mental groan-his favorite groups last album was bad, but if *he's* complaining... !!

Rants quietly for a few moments, and then thanks me for having gotten around to my "music project". Turns out he'd found my stash of older music (pre-Beatles) on the computer, and was listening to that.

    I wholeheartedly agree.

Now, pass me the Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin LPs?

Actually I think Bob Seger said it best:

"Just take those old records off the shelf

I'll sit and listen to 'em by myself

Today's music aln 't got the same soul

I like that old time rock 'n' roll"

And rather than copy Jester's list, I'll just say I think you listed everyone of my favourite bands and then some!

What can I say? I have taste. And I probably missed a whole bunch of good bands.

And keep in mind, there's still good music today. It's out there. Not the Jonas Brothers, mind you, but it is out there.

I'd agree on the taste part! (Even if you did miss Queen and Aerosmith off the list

              Pretty good list, Jester.

Funny story: Years ago my brother drove us all (me, my sisters & my mom) up to Toronto for the day. As we were driving through downtown, my sister, who loves the group Rush, suddenly whipped her head around to look back at a car that had just passed us, and started yelling, "It's Rush! Look! Right there!"

And it was. And they were all grinning because they'd noticed her noticing them. It was right around the time they were just beginning to be a big deal.

We lost 'em in traffic, though.
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

                  Jimi Hendrix
In a battle to the death who would win, Hendrix or God?

                  Hendrix.

                  Nope.

                  God.

Nope - trick question, Hendrix is God.

                  Speaking of Hendrix,

He once said "Your guitar player is better than mine" (to another popular band). Who did he say that to (person or the band)?

Hmmm if I have my memory on straight, didn't he say it about Terry Kath of Chicago? I want to say he said it to Peter Cetera but I may be wrong.

There's another lovely little story about Jimi but I've been unable to find if it's true. Allegedly he was performing one night and the members of Cream were in the audience. It's claimed that Eric Clapton left the gig muttering something about needing to go home and practice!

I've heard that one before, but it was Lemmy vs. God... (in the movie "Airheads")

Love Jester's list, but I also love finding new bands that play that classic style of Rock'n'Roll.

I like the story about the 15 year old kid who took a guitar away from Hendrix in a music store, and said something on the lines of 'Lemme show you something'.

Kid impressed Jimi enough that Jimi hired him into his band 'Jimmy James & the Blue Flame' and wanted to take him to England when he formed the experience, but the kid's mother & stepfather refused.

                        The stepfather? Ed Cassidy.
The kid? Randy Wolfe, better known by the handle Jimi gave him: Randy California.
Ed & Randy formed a great band... Spirit.

                          You did!

                          Bad Company
                          The Law
The Firm (yes I'm a Paul Rodgers fan why do you ask )
Don't forget solo Eagles projects.....Randy Meisner and Tim Schmit.
                          Poco
                          Bacon brothers
                          Pure Prairie League
                          Atlanta Rhythm Section

But I like a lot of the ones you listed as well.

And did you know Bryan Adams is a photographer as well? He does interesting work.

Had to chime in with I agree with most of the bands everyone has listed. I'm quite happily infecting my daughter with a love for classic rock. Her 2 favorite songs? Heart's Crazy on You and the Beatles Hello/Goodbye. Alice Cooper ranks right up there for her too

I burned a new disk the other day and thought I might be driving her crazy with some of what was on it, and when I looked at her, she was dancing along to The Cisco Kid.
