  • Dealing with stage parents

OK, so I got a new job working at a specialist high school. I'm the receptionist. My colleagues are awesome. It's the parents I'm stuck dealing with. I've met a small handful of them face-to-face so far, the rest are all phone related.
I'm using the typical 90%-10% ratio at the moment of 90% are good, 10% are nuts. It's the 10% I'm dealing with that are nuts.

How can I deal with them?

Depends on what you mean by 'nuts'. Since you say 'stage parents' I assume they are helicopter parents/my child is a precious snowflake parents?

Keep calm. Be firm. As we all know, staying calm either drives unreasonable people wild, or shames them into toning it down. Either way, you win.

As someone who did dance for 11 years while growing up, I wish you lots and lots of luck while dealing with them.

We only had a couple of 'those' mums at our club and my mum mostly dealt with them by ignoring them. It probably helped that our dance club didn't do competitions against other clubs and most of us kids treated it as fun rather than serious.
