    and, we're back.

I'm sorry it took so long, but thankfully it seems to have gone without error.

Cosmetically, I have a ton to do, yet to get it looking the way the site did, but other than that, I think we're back.

ForumRunner is gone; I'm not even sure what it did, but it apparently folded a couple of years back and doesn't work with v5, so it's just gone.
If anyone sees any bugs or issues, especially "showstopper" type problems, please post here asap.

So that everyone is up-to-speed: this was *just* the forum software upgrade (vBulletin, PHP, MySQL). We are now on the latest version of vBulletin; mobile apps will be coming as well (not this week, lol). The server move is still yet to happen. I am slated to take the new server to the datacenter on Monday. I do not have IP addresses, yet, but I will share the new IP as soon as I have it for anyone that wants to "assist" their DNS refresh. The old server should remain alive in the old datacenter until we're moved, and since both will be "live" concurrently, the switchover should be a lot less painful, but there will still be downtime at the start of the week, but hopefully it is a LOT less intrusive.

I'll keep informing as I know more.

p.s. the first couple of times I logged in, I got logged out... I think the cookies needed to refresh, but it seems fine, now. So, if you get logged out shortly after logging in, just refresh the page and then log back in. At most, doing that twice seems to finally get it to "stick", or that has been my experience on the test site and here.

        Sweet, thanks!

Earlier today, the site was unreachable (no 404 page or anything, just blank). Prior to that and yesterday, there were half a dozen PHP errors. Glad to see the place is back up and running!

PPE: A user asked about Fratching being down, it's throwing a generic "System Error" - I figure this is all part of the process, non?

Yeah, it was a bit of an operation to get this finished, and there were a number of times where things would have looked pretty bad or utterly inaccessible from the outside (like, probably most of the last 18+ hours). We were on software sufficiently old that it all had to be done in sorta hopscotch steps because vBulletin recommended that we do not try to upgrade directly to the newest, but instead upgrade to an intermediate build first, then upgrade the rest of the way.

We were on version 3.x.x of vBulletin, version 5.5 of MySQL, and version 5.4 of PHP. First, PHP had to be upgrade to v7.1 so that we could then upgrade the site to 4.2.25 of vBulletin, then I had to upgrade MySQL to 5.6 and PHP to 7.4 so we could make the jump to vBulletin 5.6. Each vBulletin upgrade took like 5+ hours to run the scripts, plus I was concurrently doing the next step on a test site before moving ahead with this one, and I made the mistake of rebuilding the search indexes after the 4.2 upgrade, which added a couple more hours in the middle. Those indexes are rebuilding now while we're open. So, it took a little while, but it's done and everything looks to be intact. When we move to the new server, that will be the latest version of MySQL (8.0), and then we will be fully upgraded across the board.

          Fratching is getting upgraded now.

Fratching is upgraded and open.... though, I can't seem to locate a banner image for it.

I'm not sure it's ever had a logo, has it? (I don't go there often).

addendum: A user on discord noted that the Chat subforum is completely empty. Did that not carry over, or was it some sort of special thing that was never meant to be archived?

well, that's good to hear. I had the same sort of recollection, or lack of regarding Fratching, lol
I have an older archive around here, I'll poke through it.

Regarding Chat: I didn't even notice, but nothing was told to be excluded (and I wouldn't ever want to toss something aside unless I had no choice), so if it didn't come over, there was either a breakage that didn't throw an error, or it was something that couldn't be brought forward.
Was it just a chat room or was there more in there? Like, are we missing a bunch of threads & posts??

I think I understand how Chat was supposed to be, but I don't know how it functioned. I'm guessing it was a heavy amount of custom templates and such, and if so, all of that custom work would have to be recreated since the template system was totally scrapped and rebuilt by vBulletin for v5

OK, I checked in with DD - The forum title itself should act as a link to the following, as we use Discord as chat now:

just got a text from the old datacenter owner; he needs to move the server around in there as he is closing everything up, so there will be one outage here soon, but then we *should* be ok until we do the move tomorrow or Tuesday. I'm not likely going to get any more notice than this before he needs to move it, so this is all I can share.
Basically, we'll be down in a wee bit for him to move it, then we'll be back as soon as he powers us back up

                          Error cropped up: http://www.customerssuck.com/board/f...-posting-links

edit: It actually worked, just refresh the page. I got a similar error on this very post.

I searched a word in the Fun Song Game thread and got a message saying, "You are not authorized to view this page."

Edit: I went back and both open topics in Forum Games tell me, "Sorry, you are not authorized to view this page" and I am unable to post in those topics.

The new server is getting racked in the new datacenter around 3pm EDT/Noon Pacific today (in about two hours).
I just got the new IP addresses 30 minutes ago.

There will be website downtime this evening, but once I open it back up, that should be it for the most part. The goal is to shut down the website, back up the database on the old server, restore the backup on the new server, then point the web stuff on the old server to use the database on the new server. If I can succeed in getting that configured, then the DNS changeover will be nearly invisible as you'll simply go from loading a page on one server to loading it from another, but they'll both be loading the same data. I don't have an exact time as to when to expect the site to get closed, but probably before 5pm EDT/1PM Pacific/9PM GMT is my guess, and hopefully I'll have it back open by 8pm EDT/5PM Pacific/Midnight GMT.

I will look into the errors and things after this part is done; the clock is ticking for me in regard to the old datacenter, so I need to make this part happen pretty quickly.

FWIW, I just got one of those JSON 'unexpected end of input' errors when posting that last bit.... hopefully, whatever the cause is, it will be an easy thing to resolve.

The post went through, and this subsequent post was fine.... but, that's still highly annoying.
