Just happened now. I'm trying to finish a paper that's due for my course tomorrow when the phone rings. I don't recognize the number on the caller ID but I pick it up anyway.
Me: Hello?
Caller : (in very thick Hispanic accent) I need to change appointment
Me: I'm sorry, what did you say?
Caller: I need to speak with <doctor> to change today's appointment
Me: I'm sorry, this is actually not a doctor's office, you've called somebody's house.
Caller: <hospital that is easily 200 miles from here>?
Me: Is that who you're trying to call?
Caller: This isn't <hospital>?
Me: No, sorry, this isn't. What's the hospital called again?
Caller: <hospital>
Me: Hang on just a second.
I looked up the correct number and sent her on her way. She wasn't sucky or anything because she didn't try to insist I was the hospital she wanted, but the number she dialed has maybe 1 or 2 numbers in common with mine.
I'm waiting now to see if she uses the number I gave her or just hits redial. We're going on about two minutes now.
