  • What is this i don't even...

I'll make this one brief because i think i can sum it all up in one sentence:

Last week I took a call from a customer who was asking why they wouldn't get any channels on their tv when their Antenna was hooked up to the VCR.

Or maybe i can't. To elaborate: She had the VCR hooked up to the TV and the Antenna hooked to the VCR, and was trying to watch TV that way and was wondering why she wasn't getting any reception. So I had to walk her through how to not only hook the antenna up to the TV, but apparently how to hook the VCR up to the TV because she didn't know how to get that to work with the Antenna hooked up.

I feel a sudden sorrow for those who work Tech Support call lines, I really do.

Wouldn't she need a DTV box also? And please tell me this customer was an older woman, because otherwise someone really needs to get into the times!

Younger woman, and it was a brand new tv, which is why she called us, the place she most likely bought it from.

Last I checked, you usually don't need the cable connected directly to the TV, and can daisy-chain it through the VCR. You might need to have the VCR turned on and watch the channels through that, but its simpler that way than having extra cables to deal with behind the set.
Something kind of sad about the way that things have come to be.
Desensitized to everything, what became of subtlety?

VCRs were designed to have the cable come thru them then to the TV,you set the TV to channel 3 or 4,then using the VCR remote toggle between it & the TV.
DVD players don't do that since they don't record.

            Mine does.

Admittedly, I almost never use it. Not much of a TV guy.

We sell DirecTV in an area that's very heavily populated by retirees. We have wonderful customers, but we have a handful that fully admit that they aren't good with technology. So, at least once a day one of us is walking someone through something over the phone because a wrong button was pushed. It's very frustrating at times!

ETA- Which reminds me of the lady who couldn't get the porn off of her bedroom TV. But that's a different thread for a different time...
