  • Spies, spies I tell you!

The hospital where I take my students for clinic is being surveyed by CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services). There's been a lot of tension on the unit as administration has been all over the staff to do everything perfect to impress the surveyors. I've even had to brief my students on what to do if the surveyors ask THEM questions, which could happen. /bg

It was pretty busy today. When I came onto the unit, I bumped into two of my former students, who graduated last May and just got hired on at the hospital. They were on the floor to start their nursing orientation.

Part of their orientation is a scavenger hunt. They have a list and have to find all kinds of things.

One of the CNAs was convinced they were surveyors in disguise. Even though they were told the surveyors would not pretend to be staff or visitors, the rumor started spreading all over the unit because "they were asking questions."

Which, of course, is what new orientees do
They say that God only gives us what we can handle. Apparently, God thinks I'm a bad ass.

It's also what spies would do. *shifty eyes*
Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

If they know something about the subject at hand, that is.

This does not mean, however, that one can go into a situation posing as a specialist on guidance systems and try to explain to the class "The purpose of an Inertial Guidance System is to guide - inertially" and actually think they'll buy it.

Or maybe I just need more coffee this morning . . .
