The hospital where I take my students for clinic is being surveyed by CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services). There's been a lot of tension on the unit as administration has been all over the staff to do everything perfect to impress the surveyors. I've even had to brief my students on what to do if the surveyors ask THEM questions, which could happen. /bg
It was pretty busy today. When I came onto the unit, I bumped into two of my former students, who graduated last May and just got hired on at the hospital. They were on the floor to start their nursing orientation.
Part of their orientation is a scavenger hunt. They have a list and have to find all kinds of things.
One of the CNAs was convinced they were surveyors in disguise. Even though they were told the surveyors would not pretend to be staff or visitors, the rumor started spreading all over the unit because "they were asking questions."
Which, of course, is what new orientees do
