Not only that, but we went to a high school football game several years back, and he was hitting on a woman who was the mother of the team's starting safety. So he was in his mid-20's or so there hitting on a woman probably in her late 30's or early 40's. He still thinks he could have gone home with her, but he and I rode to the game together. I told him if he was that convinced, he could have arranged it, and just gave me the keys to his car.

That may be the *dictionary* definition, but legally, if they are under the age of consent, it doesn't matter if they are 16 or 6, it's the same *crime*.

The silliness and ruined lives that resulted from this have gotten a *few* states to add some wording about if the age spread is less than 20r 3 years (depending on state) then it *isn't* statutory rape (too many high school students got nailed for consensual sex with their girl friend who was only a year or two younger)

I should note that I know a few couples with major age gaps that are actually perfect for one another (ie, I have a 40 year old and 22 year old pair of friends who are practically inseparable), but that sort of thing just doesn't mesh right. My fiancee is a few years younger than I am, but we're not really that far apart.

One factor where it's not simply a matter of age (i.e. teacher/student affairs being banned even if the student is over the age of consent) is whether the adult is in a position to excercise undue influence over the youth in order to get them into bed. Of course, the argument could be made that, in the case of teenage boys, an offer of sex is, on its own, undue influence.

I'm gonna feel like a creepy guy saying this, but I'll admit that I'm not exactly blind when a cute guy comes up and talks to me. It's just that the young ones like that get filed into the "cute, potentially in # years" file in my brain, and I stop there. It's going past that point that gets people into trouble
