  • Your, hired?(semi-long)

Hello! I am relatively new to the boards and I have been reading many posts and I'm sorry that if this is in the wrong section of the board, but for some reason I was thinking about something that happened to me when I was younger regarding work. Please forgive me, it was a while ago so if the story sounds a little choppy it is just me trying to remember exactly what happened, because it makes no sense to me.

I was working at a music store and needed to find a second job since I was not getting many hours and was going to go back to school. So I applied at the coffee shop down the streeet from the store I was working at. I had two great interviews and was hired, given the hours I would be working and told to come in the week after to do some training and fill out paperwork. Great, no problem!

Well..I arrived that day and was met with dumbfounded looks..they had no clue who I was! The manager on duty did not have anything on file for me and she was honestly a little snippy with me. She sent me to the back room where someone else was training as well and made some phone calls trying to figure out who hired me and confirm I wasn't some crazy girl coming into a place of business claiming I worked there, I gave her the names of the managers I had spoken to and they were not available. I was scheduled to start working 2 days after that initial meeting at 6 am. The manager on duty gave me some papers to fill out and told me I could watch the videos etc. for training but she had no record of me being hired. I said that once she got that sorted out I would come back in and start the process, I tried to call the managers that I interveiwed with at first to see what had happened, I never heard from them and never worked there. I don't even think I bought coffee from them again.

Have you ever heard of something like that? I perhaps have my moments of silliness but I do know if I was hired for a job or not!

Yeah I hate it when there's no communication between people - I've shown up for interviews, for jobs, etc and people seem to have no clue what's going on.

I was also hired for a week, came back to get my schedule for the next week, and was told they had "hired too many people". I asked what I should do and they said "well go look around other stores and see if they need help".... um shouldn't YOU try to help me transfer to another store since YOU were the one that hired me and promised me work (btw, this was really a re-hire, not an initial hire )

That happened to me once. I applied for this one company. I got called back for an interview, and then a second one. They told me to come in a week later, and talk to this one supervisor. I waited that week, went back down there. They had no clue as to who I was. The person who "hired" me asked if I had any dress clothes. I didn't but I went out and bought a couple pairs of dress pants. That was money that could have used to pay a couple of bills, gone.

If you never even wore them, why not just return them? That's what i would have done.

When I interviewed at BK I was hired and told to come in Monday at 4. So I come in, and they look at me like I have 5 heads. They had me down to start Tuesday.

They "explained" later that the hiring manager "forgot" to tell them that I was coming in to get my uniform, etc. and didn't tell me I was coming in to start working.

Whatever, they wondered why I quit two months later too.

Something similar happened to me, but not quite the same thing. I had two interviews with this place and I was just waiting for my background check to clear and then it was time for a drug test. I never heard anything about the background check...no call, nothing. I let it go for a week or two and pretty much said screw it because I had other offers at the time.

My boyfriend once got a job at Burger King when he was still in high school. He went in for his training and everything, watched all the videos and such. They said they'd have to order pants for him because they didn't have any more in his size, but they sent him home with the shirts. He said they never called him back and he still has the shirts.
