This wasn't quite strong enough to go into Morons in Management (IMO) so it's here.
A few feet past the "exit" end of all the registers is a shelf. Today there were plants standing on it, a couple of potted plants and some bunches of cut flowers in a small tub of water.
About halfway through my shift I asked a supervisor why they were there.
"Oh, they're free for any customers to take."
Okay, well, here's a radical idea: HOW ABOUT IF WE TELL THE CUSTOMERS THE PLANTS ARE FREE ...
I started pointing them out to my customers and within about 15 minutes nearly everything was gone.
Ya know, staff aren't mind-readers ... and neither are customers.
And no, there were no signs reading "Free Plants" or anything similar up there. There were just ... the plants.
