I knew it was Friday but I wouldn't have expected anyone to fast for it, never heard of that before...

Some folks fast completely on Good Friday (water only, IIRC), and some simply abstain from red meat and/or other specific foods. To each their own ^_^

Grew up Roman Cat-lick, myself (more or less - immediate family wasn't stringent; extended family was and is hardcore). I think the only restriction they cared about was basically "seafood only on those Fridays."

I don't know anyone who fasts on Good Friday, so I think I would be the guilty party and bring pizza in without knowing. Though, I would make up for it another day and bring pizza/lunch for those that were fasting once I found out.

I remember before the crash of 2008, and the City has a lot of cash, the Library started togive bonuses and do events for the workers.
So on a Friday in Lent, there was a buffet with a lot of good food. I had to abstain from meat, and I see one of my coworker, who converted to Catholicism, loaded up on prohibibted food. I was debating on reminding her it was Friday. Sometimes people think if you forget you arn't as bad in God's eyes as if you did it diliberately. My own belief, at the time, is that. Also, if you want to be cynical, you can think about going to confession and confessing and being forgiven.
But I reminded her. I don't know how guilty she would have felt. She appreciated it.

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.

Same here. Fridays were our "fish and chips" day.

Heh. Apparently, that was the impetus for the Filet O'Fish sammich at the Golden Arches! The burgers were selling well, but in one heavily Catholic area, sales were way down on Fridays. So the franchisee of that store came up with something (that met a lot of requirements from Corporate, like actual cost) that would work. Corporate tried promoting what was basically a cheeseburger with no beef. They set up the two in competition, and the fish sandwich massively out-sold the cheese one.
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged.
One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world.
The other, of course, involves orcs." -- John Rogers
