  • Question.

We just got a new VP, who noticing high call volume for the call center when we have training for some reps scheduled decided, rather than schedule extra reps to compensate for the lack of reps and give them OT. He has decided that all training will not be scheduled on a work day but one of your days off.

For example, we have a 8 hour training class for Tier 2 since were removing Tier 2. Rather than schedule extra reps they force it on our day off. Granted its OT, but I dislike mandatory OT unless its on a day I already plan on working. Now were also not getting another day off to compensate is that legal?

It might have to depend on where you live. But I would say that it is legal.

It is legal, you are getting paid for the time, and as long as they don't schedule training to the point that you work more than 14 consecutive days they are in the clear.
The only words you said that I understood were "His", "Phone" and "Ya'll". The other 2 paragraphs worth was about as intelligible as a drunken Teletubby barkin' come on's at a Hooter's waitress.

At my job they informed us if training had to be scheduled on an off day you will be compensated for the time used there (OT AND A another day off)
It could be legal though... but if they wanna pay you OT to train, it might be worth it.

As long as they are paying you overtime rates for the extra hours then it's legal (fair? well, that's another story...)

What I don't get is that they'll pay overtime for you to do training but not pay overtime to have extra people work while you do training...what's the difference? They still have to pay OT for the same hours, do they not?

I guess cause it would be the entire shift? Its virtually the same thing.
