They just keep on coming in earlier and earlier.

One of the meat guys walked in around 2:30 am today.

Both grocery asst managers showed up a little before 4.

I worked nearly 10 hours - big truck, and nobody else wanted to stay late to finish the little stuff (spices, I'm looking at you). I clocked in at 11:53 pm (we can clock in up to 7 minutes early/late), and clocked out at 9:45 am. I love me some OT!

I did have to kind of laugh (while shaking my head) when one of the janitorial guys walked past me absolutely REEKING of weed early this morning. Yeah, my store has a huge stoner population, myself included (no drug tests) and even a lot of the managers - but I won't go to work intoxicated on anything stronger than an Advil. One of my coworkers was at the other end of the aisle, and he even caught a whiff of it. ("What the hell? Dude did you just smoke a joint or something?"... "Nah man, that's the janitor, he just walked by")

The earliest I have to be at work is 6 AM (when I have to open). However, if I ever have to be the opening UC (custodial duties) on Thursdays I'd have to be there at 5, to clean out the milk box. I'm hoping I never have to do that. Still, it beats the 4 o'clock start time I would have had If I had stayed in the bakery and opened.

I typically wake up at 8am, shower, shave, eat breakfast, then bike to the TRAX station to catch the bus to school. Then depending if I'm coming into work early or at my normal shift I'll either take the bus straight to work or back to the trax station and back home before going back into work. That's on the days I'm not lazy... if I'm lazy I wake up at 8:30, same routine except driving.

With very few exceptions, I never have to be work before 9 am, though 10 am is more common. To wit:

At The Bar, the day shift (for servers or bartenders) starts at 10 am, and the night shift can start anywhere from 4-7 pm. Since I work either, it varies.

At the Waterfront Bar, I give them my availability based on my (full-time) schedule at The Bar, and I only work 1-2 shifts a week. When we were slow in August and September, they flat out didn't schedule me, as their FULL TIMERS were down a shift or two a week. Anyway, the day shifts typically start at 9 or 10 am, though there is a 730am shift. There are people there that seem to like that shift, and I definitely don't, though I have done it a couple of times. Hell, me waking up at 730am is tough enough, but to be AT WORK at that hour? Please.

The only exceptions to the above is "mandatory meetings" which usually suck, and are usually at 9 am or later. Though I did have some 8 am meetings when I worked at The Red and White Striped Corporate Restaurant. Amusingly, despite my general unhappiness with mornings, I was never late to those meetings, and my general philosophy was, "Hey...if JESTER can be here at 8 am, no one else has an excuse, damn it!"

Reading this thread, I am once again very VERY happy that I work in restaurants and bars! Hell, some of you people start work at a time when I may still be out at the bars, or just getting home from them!

I used to love starting my day as the sun went down. Or in the late afternoon. I used to live for closing shifts.

Now that I'm on super late overnights (getting to work at midnight) - I'm really enjoying leaving work at 8am. Waking up for an opening shift wouldn't be much different - go to bed 4 hours later, wake up 4 hours later. It's nice having the mornings and early afternoons free, though I'm typically in bed by 3pm.

I do hate walking out into the sun though.

I start at 5.45pm and work till 11.15. One Sunday a fortnight I start at 9.30am, not terribley early, but pretty early by my standards.

My job starts at 7 am sharp.

Which means, this week and next week, I have to get up around 4:45 AM and drive for 1.5 hours in evil traffic. I get off work at 3:30 pm and go home, in evil traffic...and get home at 6:30ish.

Week after next, I'll be working 20mi from here which will be a MUCH shorter drive.

                  Woot!

I work 11pm to 7 am......with overtime, I have to stay late or go in early 3 days a week because I want to avoid 12 hour shifts. They KILL. Honest to God, working 12 hours on the same machine is enough to drive a person to insanity.

I see people from 1st shift who come in every day at 3 am sharp. That's right, they work 3-3 all week! Sometimes I want to tell them to go home and go back to bed!

Now I work in an office I start just as early as when I went to university.

Im at the bus stop by 6:45am and usually at the office by 7:10am

I dont offically start until 8am but if I catch a later bus I would be late for work, you try and get on the motorway after 7am and its a 2 hour drive versus 20 minutes... no kidding either.

we have 250 + people, the earlyest start at 5am becuase our business is 24 hour and the last people finish at 10:30pm but most of my floor are in by 7:30. Almost all of the people I know at work go to the gym at 6am and then shower and have breakfast at work.

pretty early for an office I think
