  • Halloween = Happy Day!

I was just wondering if anyone else works for an employer that allows them to dress up for Halloween?

At my store, it's the one day a year we aren't restricted by uniforms, and the staff completely go all out.

This year, the day staff did a KISS tribute. All of us on shift wore the makeup and each had a KISS tour t-shirt (thanks to my hubby..."Make sure you bring them home, they're authentic shirts, not knock offs!!" He's so silly!)

Anyhow, it turned out to be a great day. The customer's loved the makeup (even the ones who thought I was supposed to be Alice Cooper!), and we did a side promotion that anyone who could tell us the first and last name of the band member we were supposed to be got $1.00 off their sub. Let me tell ya, there's a lot of people who know who Gene Simmons is!

I absolutely love Halloween, it's one of my fave days of the year.

Anyway, I was just curious as to what everyone else did. Plus, this thread is the perfect excuse to post this pic:

I wouldn't work anyplace that didn't let me dress up on Halloween This year I was elf princess. Renaissance Faire-type dress, tiara, prosthetic ears and ballet slippers. Got lots of compliments, a few people recognized I was an elf (or Arwen, I got that a lot too. Acceptable ). I also got Cinderella, an angel, a fairy and...Morticia Addams (WTF?).

A lot of people didn't say anything and they kind of stared when they thought you weren't looking, like "Am I seeing this? Should I say something? What if I'm hallucinating?" And then there are always a few people who glare and act really hostile, like "You're too old for that." Yeah, piss off.

Right on! Wish I worked there, that would've been major fun!

You are NEVER too old for Halloween. If those anal-retentive old gomers don't want to dress up and have fun, well phooey on them. More fun for the rest of us!

My family went trick or treating at the mall this year and in the one hair salon, the entire staff was also dressed up like Kiss! It was cool!

Being a big Kiss fan from way back, when we went in I greeted Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons as they were up front giving candy.

My family dressed up - my 5 year old was sleeping beauty, I was Maleficient the evil witch from the same fairy tale, and my husband was V for Vendetta.

We were one of the few families dressed up at the mall, which was a shame. We love Halloween and getting dressed up as a family. Makes us feel like kids again.

Oh, I know what you mean - I volunteer at DD's school and went there dressed up that day - all the other parents at the Halloween party were giving me the stink-eye like I was too old to be dressed up. I don't care, because I love doing it, the kids got a huge charge out of it, and the teachers all thought it was great too.

Foo on those who don't get it. I'll be dressing up until I die.

The new guy D and I wore scrubs... 2 surgeons, I guess

M dressed like a gangster. (The Al Capone kind, not the Blood vs Crip kind)

And the manager wore a tiedye shirt and a 'Rasta' dreadlock style wig like Bob Marley.

I wore this outfit sans mask to work. At my shopping center they held a prize for the best costume and I won. Hundred bucks cash, woohoo!

One of the best halloweens I ever had was when I was eight.

Our neighbors (whom mom thought were stuck up snobs) dressed up for halloween and sat around telling horror stories to the neighborhood kids.

The wife (she was 67) dressed up as Snow white, her husband as the Prince and her sister was the evil queen.

                  IT WAS AWESOME.

^-^ I vowed I'd be the female counterpart of that couple at their age.

My wife and I were driving through campus around 3pm on Wednesday (Halloween) and I saw probably the best costume. A college student dressed up as Awesome-O. Hehehe

Too bad I couldn't get a better look at the costume since I was driving at the time and the sidewalks there go up hill while the road stays the same.

+points for creativity. Too bad he probably had to explain who/what he was to a few of the students at ISU. :-p

I used to have a manager who "required" us to dress up.

Me, I generally used Halloween as an excuse to wear jeans. Last time I dressed up (at Store1) I wore jeans and a black tshirt, and made a nametag that said "Hello, My name is Forever" - I was "Forever in Blue Jeans"

Yeah, I had to explain to a lot of younger people. I made the nametag on my computer so I had a line from the song's chorus going across the bottom in light gray.

Though part of the night I was wearing my then-bf's cowboy hat (he was MOD that night).

One year I wore my cap and gown from graduation (well, the cap sat on my register because it was annoying me). And for a little while when I was out on the floor I carried a road atlas with me and was a "Roads Scholar" ...yeah

I was at Store2 for 2 Halloweens; one year I just wore all black with Halloween jewelry, and I didn't work H'ween the other year.

Ow. That was bad, in the best possible way. A truly horrible visual pun like that is a thing of beauty!

You'll no doubt think that this is really sad, but I have dressed up for Halloween a grand total of once in my life. I was working the 4-midnight shift at Wallyworld. I had my Mom make me a green velvet dress with gold trim, and I was Princess Fiona for the day

Uncomfortable as hell working in pumps instead of my Nikes, but the kids and a lot of adults got a kick out of it, especially since my hair is naturally perfect for the part, hehe.

I am the opposite. I have NOT dressed up once in my life for Halloween, when I was 13. I was sick that day.

I am now 37, and haven't stopped dressing up in costume for Halloween or any other excuse I can come up with.
