123 at once from a third-party administrator for insurance. Two weeks before Christmas, no warning, permanent layoff. Then they called about half of them back right after New Year. Turned out it was a kind of "oops".

Not all at once, but when I worked for a large church, the senior pastor had problems with paranoia and massive overspending. Went through (average staff of six at any one time) 20 people in a four-year period, all but two fired by him. Three more after me (the three he kept me on to train after he fired me ), then the congregation got mad and sent him packing.

The gallery lost 7 of its staff in a 2 month period, which is alot when you consider they only employed 18 people.

It was the third time the entire store staff had quit in as many years.....

One store I worked at had people quitting every week. I'd just finished being trained and found myself training my trainer's replacement. I was there for six months, which was a long time for that store.

Where I'm working now lost 4 people in a week. Two went interstate, one got a job in his chosen field, and one was fired for stealing. It's actually why I was hired!

My store had 100% turnover in two days about a month before I started. The manager and ALL the staff left. The store was closed for about a week as a result.

The manager left for another job, and apparently she was so loved that the staff didn't want to work that job without her.

Wow. I wonder what upper management had to say about that.

Well, the one time I observed something like that with one of our partners (only 50% of the management, though, and minimal rank-and-file), the GM was given his walking papers.

My sister's manager at Hallmark has just announced her retirement in January. 1/3 of the staff gave their two weeks on the spot. Missy was going to quit too, but stayed when she realized how desperate they would be. Things have gotten so bad that they've actually hired *gasp* a guy!

I got a call once from a salesman for a business to business firm.

Caller: I'm calling from <some office supply company>. I'd like to speak to the CEO of your company.
Me: You want me to connect you to the CEO of one of the largest cable companies in the world?
                    Caller: Yes, please.
Me: Sure. I'll connect you right away. <Oops... Somehow, I lost him the transfer to nowhere>

That was amateur hour if I ever saw it.

LOL I get those once in a while, and the "I'd like to speak with whoever is in charge of ordering office supplies" ones too.

I noticed a trend in this thread of people having horrible experiences in outsourced call centers like Convergys. My unscientific research has pretty much proven that working in an outsourced call center is the worst environment to work in. It's almost always high stress, all about volume or some other metric with nearly impossible goals and high turnover. Not to mention there's zero company loyalty since you get paid by Company X to shill/collect/support Company Y so why should you give a shit for either one?

The story goes that the staff believed head office had treated their manager unfairly, thereby forcing her to get another job and leave.

Her employees didn't want upper management getting away with treating people poorly, so they all quit, forcing corporate to close the store and hemorrhage money for several weeks. This store is #1 in the company for sales.

Also, the District Manager actually had to work in the store for a week or two after that.
