I am curious, what kind of job has you work that long?

The most I worked have been 12 hours. That was only when we were re-modeling the store I work at. I had to help re-set everything.

I actually work 3 12-hour days in a row, and am off 4 straight. I get full time benefits and good pay.

At first, the 12's were tough to get used to. I was exhausted the first couple of weeks, but now they're nothing.

Downside is I get bored after 2 days of being off. I tried to pick up another 1/2 day a week, but business is slow this time of year, so they said no.

          long shifts

I regulary work 13-15 hours split up between 2 jobs 5-7 for one and 8 for the other. I'm pretty used to it but sometimes I get pretty tired (full-time job is 3rd shift so my schedule is pretty screwy).

Two longest shifts I ever worked in one place was 11 hours back when I was at Medial Play ( my first long day ever and good lord was I tired at the end) and a 10 hour day at my current part time, 10 normally wouldn't be that bad for me, but i was supposed to work 3-7 got called in early (12) then at 6 my friend who was the one who worked to close begged me to work for him.

I'm thinking TNT works in some sort of emergency/on call type job, I worked with a guy who was the head of the PA Turnpikes maintenance crew for their snowplows, he was at work the moment snow started falling till the plows stopped running, his record was nearly a week.

Worked four ten-hour days in a row this week so far, woo. Got one more day left--let's hope it's shorter! Although at least I'm in the middle of two days off right now--our week runs from Wednesday to Thursday.

The most I've worked is just shy of 13 hours on an open-to-close (with an hour break in the middle, and showing up a little late). Volunteered to close for someone else who couldn't.

Thing is, I'm scheduled to be the "volume" shift from . . . well, now on, it looks like. And I'm told that that's the best shift, since it has both the lunch rush and the dinner rush and I can get home at a decent time. But I'm just not sure I can be happy about it. I like the late shifts, like not having to set my alarm--and while I like hours, I like . . . I don't know, forty hours.

I'll really enjoy the paycheck, but . . . it's a little trying just now. I'm not used to it. >_>

I worked in a group home for mentally ill adults. During the week, my shift was 3:30pm to 9am (17.5 hours). In theory, I was allowed to sleep between midnight and 6am (still on the clock), but it seldom worked out that way.

Fridays and Saturdays were 3:30pm to 3:30pm the next day. Working both days resulted in a 48 hour shift (which I did every six weeks).

The time I worked the 96 hour shift was because of a blizzard. Since I lived right across the street, I was the only one who could get there. I actually wound up clocking 124 hours for that week. I almost wound up spending all 168 hours of that week on the clock. Even after four days, the co-worker who was supposed to relieve me refused to drive to work... my boss had to go get her.

In the state of New South Wales (Australia), the police service has been using "block rostering": that is, "four 12-hour shifts - two day shifts and two night shifts - followed by six rest days in a row." The system has been criticised for encouraging police officers to moonlight in second jobs, and the police commissioner and state government are planning to overhaul the system so that days are worked on something closer to regular full-time hours.

                More details here:

Oh, me personally? I don't come close to any of these records, I'm afraid. I think my longest shift was about 10 or 11 hours!

24 on, 48 off was the bane of my existence when I worked for the fire department. Day shifts were coveted and went by seniority. It wasn't so bad when I was at a station as you could go to bed at 9pm. But at the 911 center we slept in shifts. Killed my sleeping patterns for my days off.
