Sounds rough. I've had to go to court once for the place I worked for, but they were a couple of punk kids who shoplifted so it was no where near as big a deal, even though they did threaten me.

Best of luck with this. My only suggestion would be to make certain that they know you're afraid for your life and ask them for protection, at least until it's over.
