What's your work spiel?

I have to answer the phone "Good evening, thank you for calling NHS Choose and Book, My name is Fiyero. Can I please take your booking reference number..."

I hate when the system is down and I don't ask for the number but say "How can I help you" at the end. This leads to people saying things like "I got a letter from my doctor that says I need to phone you" ARGH

I have a few departments I answer so it is

WLNP (Porting) Technical Support or Programming (Programming)

"Thank you for calling <company name> this is the <insert department name> my name is Chanlin how can I help you today?"

Or for regular Customer Service or New Activations I just got out the department name portion.

If its a direct to my extension call I just answer "Hello, this is Chanlin." Unless its a number I recognize and do not wish to talk to at the immediate moment in which case I let my voice mail pick it up.

I almost answered my house phone with my work greeting this morning.

This is why I NEVER answer the house phone...that and no one really calls it.
