  • Falsely accused of making personal calls

    This happened Thursday afternoon.
I was over at the other plant for the day. After lunch, my supervisor (who is super awesomely cool, btw) drove over to see how things are. He also had another reason. He's about to head back and asks if I want to ride back with him.
"No, thanks. I'll ride back with Johnny (name changed)." I say
"Noo... I think you will ride back with me." Supervisor says. Uh oh.

I get in the truck and we drive for a bit. I ask "Is it good or bad?" with a little smile.
Then he said "It's definitely not good. Not good at all." He pulls over and takes out a copy of the phone bill for our department. (We are issued Nextel phones.)

There's my name next to a phone number. And under that number are 3 pages of phone calls, out and in. He then asks why I have made over $250 worth of phone calls. I give him the face and ask to look at the bill.

Sure enough, over $250 worth of calls. Then I look closer. Luckily, I had my personal phone on me as well. I grab my nextel and dial my personal number. My caller ID shows a totally different number than what is shown on the bill.

I show this to the supervisor and tell him that it isn't my phone/account. The secretary put my name with the wrong number. I also point out that this person has called the same number twice a day, every day for the past billing cycle. When I am operating the plant, I carry a different phone with me. The calls were also made late in the evening, around 7:00 p.m. I don't take my phone home with me, because I do not want to be responsible for losing it. I leave it at work, charging, every night.

So after I prove my innocence, my supervisor decides to call the number. He does, and a woman answers. Hmmm.. I ask him to call the other number; see who answers. Then we'll know who was making all the calls. (Why they didn't do that in the first place is beyond me.)

Super calls the number.. and the plant fuck-up answers. He's a kid (23 years old) that messes up everything he touches. I think I may have posted about him before. He is on his last breath at the plant. One more foul up, and he may be fired. Well, this may have done it.

Supervisor drives me back to home base, apologizing for most of the time. I tell him not to worry; it wasn't his fault. It was the secretary's for not paying attention

What I don't understand is... WHY would you call your girlfriend twice, sometimes three times a day, EVERY DAY? I am not that P-whipped. And on the company phone?? That's not a smart thing to do.

I think the bigger question here is why would your moron of a boss not have checked out who actually made the calls before accusing you of such a thing?

I think i can answer that one.

Phonebill shows the number that is making the calls. and that number is asigned to knightmare.

Wow...that right there is a good example of getting canned. Knightmare, I'm glad you were able to clear your name on that accusation. Not to threadjack, but I've noticed that the same girls I talked about on my other thread (Thank You For Snitching -under Cursing Out Co-Workers) some of them were making and receiving personal calls on the phones! Hell, one of them who is no longer working with us (my guess is she was canned) used to get this one guy from NY that was a customer that would call her on the phone to chat with her WHILE logged in.

Btw, edited the above post because, believe it or not, my boss is not a moron.

I wondered that as well. It would have saved him a trip out to the other plant.

Also, how did the secretary put my name onto the wrong number? My number and the other guy's number are no where close to each other.

Ah well. In five years I'll be running that place anyway.

I'd like to be a fly on the wall when supervisor calls in the plant fuck-up to discuss the phone situation.

Since you're in central FL, will you give me a job when I have to move back to Ocala to take care of my parents when they get too old?

The *only* time I've ever used a company phone to call a girlfriend...was because I didn't have a cell, and wanted to tell her that I had to work that weekend. We'd just moved shop, and since I was the resident "IT Guy," I was asked to work some overtime. I couldn't complain...2 days of work at 2x the regular rate

But seriously, I didn't get into trouble, simply because it was a one-time thing, and the call was only a few minutes.
