    12-8? You need to take a meal break.

    Anything over 7.5 hours, I think it is and you'll need to take a half hour break. That's the law.

    So walk up to the manager. "I've been here since 12 and I stay until 8. When do you want me to take my half-hour break?"
    When will the fantasy end? When will the heaven begin?

      As a fast food manager currently, I have to second the idea that sometimes we forget. Likely the ones who do not get their breaks are the ones who never say anything. I tell all of my employees up front that I tend to forget these things, and to please remind me. Those employees who do so in a mature, respectful fashion always get their breaks. Those who whine at me and ask 4 times in a 3 minute period at 12:20 ... well, they wait, usually - but they get them eventually.

      It can't hurt to ask, as long as you do it in the right way. I agree that a reminder is better than a question. "I have been here for 6 hours and haven't gotten my break yet. It's sure been busy, hu?" works way better than "When do I get my break? I want it!"

      Trust us.

        I never got an actual break; was expected to multitask while eating my lunch (I could do research, but not listing as I didn't want to get food/drink on the inventory...not to mention there wasn't enough room on the desk). I was told that "the shrinkwrap on the boxes will protect against spills"...no it won't and I have proof, would you rather believe me or risk it?

          Perhaps you can mention it to the prior shift manager?

          SM= Shift manager

          "Hey, SM1- before you go for the day, I haven't taken my break yet. On your way out would you please mention it to SM2? I'd apprecaite it! Thanks"

          But asking what time your break is works as well too. Just don't do it around customers. I've thought it was RUDE when I'm being checked out and the cashier turns to the MOD and says, "What time/When can I/ take my break?" Or "Is it my break time now?" I know you've been working hard, but please at least let me think you like helping me. I'm not being an SC and I've only got 3 items and no one behind me.

          You don't know what Hades is until you've worked at least one Christmas Season in a toy store that offers free gift wrapping.
