The cash registers decided to learn a new trick since I've been away. It seems at least once a shift, after swiping a patrons card, they decide that they're going to misread the card and go into a long unnecessary dialing process that ends in the canceling of the transaction. It seems that this happens mostly during our rushes, but sometimes in off hours. In all of the days that I've worked register this has happened to me at least once sometimes twice.
