Okay, I found a website, No Nonsense Self Defense, a little while ago, and have been browsing through the site since it seems to hold quite a bit of interesting and insightful information. One sub-section of a page in particular (link HERE), about the Four Types of Violence and how to counter them, seems quite applicable on how to deal with the various types of Sucky Customer.
While we generally don't have much to do with the Fear motivation (other than some really paranoid types), the Frenzy (someone getting massively pissed over a legit problem, such as a $300 charge on their bill they didn't make), Tantrum (looking for an excuse to blow up because they like making scenes, aka your typical Entitlement Whore) and Extortion (aka, a Scammer throwing a hissy) motivations are all things we deal with frequently. Having some professional grade tools can only help.
Yes, the page is designed for LEOs trying to control a potentially violent situation, but the psychology of talking the idiots into behaving rationally is pretty much exactly the same... there's just far less chance of us having it escalate to a physical confrontation. Kusanagi aside, that is.
Feel free to post any thoughts, as always.
EDIT: This might be better in the 'Advice' sub-forum, but that is, of course, up to the Mods.
