This made me wonder.... does unemployment in places say you have to take a job that's drastically under your old pay rate?
In Ohio, when I was laid off during the dot bomb era, I took lower paying jobs to look good on the resume. After all, lots of blank time looks bad to some employers. Unemployment paid any difference between what the job paid, and what the unemployment benefit was. It was only about three months before I worked my way up the pay ladder, and was out-earning my unemployment benefits.
The Rich keep getting richer because they keep doing what it was that made them rich. Ditto the Poor.

....I start working on some self employment ideas. I make a grand total of $30 one week and report it, as I am supposed to. Next week, I make nothing. Now we have a problem. Now I'm flagged and they want to know why I had money one week and not the next....
Similar things happen in my town when the companies do their yearly month long lay offs (workers collect unemployment, but they're not looking for work as they still have a job, and they still get paid for any holidays, so they sometimes have pay despite not working [which messed up the system as they must've been "lieing"]).

I almost had a similar problem when I was self-employed (couldn't find work, so did my own). One week I made $20, reported it, fortunately they just sent me a check -$20 and asked "where did it come from?" with no problems.
