    Okay you're offered 2 jobs.

Job A pays more but would you accept job B if (and if yes how much less would you accept).

    Job B if

    Benefits were better

    Commute was easier

    Hours were easier

Especially in retail you had more interest in what the store sold or non retail more interest in the product or what the company did.

    Atmosphere

More steady store or company especially in this economy.

And if one isn't enough what combo would you accept less pay for?

Uh, as long as B's paying enough to live on, I can't imagine most people not picking B. I mean, I've known people who'll pick a slightly lower paying job on benefits alone. Are there really people who'd pick A over all that other stuff?

ETA: Oh, I misread that at first, it was "any one of which" not "all of which." Heh. I'm silly.

One of the main things I look at in any job is the health insurance. I'm fairly high-maintenance, so I know I'm going to spending a significant amount of money on health care every year.

I was in such a situation a few years ago. I was in a low-paying job that I loved and I never would have left if our benefits hadn't changed. The health benefits were cheap ($5 a month), and covered everything with almost no co-pays. Then one year the premiums went up to $80 a month with high co-pays (the doctor I saw weekly went from zero co-pay to $25 and prescriptions went from $10 to $30). I had no choice but to leave because I couldn't afford to even pay rent anymore.

So I took a job that pays twice as much, but I'm not as happy as I was before.

        Benefits were better

        Commute was easier

I was in this situation back in July when I accepted my current lab job

previous job A offered me a new CS position after layoff at same pay with same benefits(pay $13/hour- insurance for myself only $160/month) it would be a 1 hour commute by bus each way.

Job B which I took-offered $10/hour, health insurance for myself and spouse-paid for, and I can bike to work in 15 minutes, walk in 30 or take the bus.
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

Honestly I would accept job B in every scenario unless they amount they were paying me was not enough to work on.

But you also have to factor in:

Job B pays $10 an hour, + 100% of health insurance
Job A pays $13 an hour, + x% of health insurance.

Depending on that X, you may end up making less with job A.

When I look for a job, I look for ease of commute and total hours available. Money doesn't really matter as long as it pays my rent and other expenses (currently, a minimum of $600 a month). But I have to work. No work makes me a sad panda.

We're doing this at work at the moment, we have a pharmacist position to fill but we're offering at the low end of the scale.

What we do have though is; flexitime, 35 hour week* with no weekends, (normally) better holiday entitlement, heaps of training (to satisfy mandatory requirements) and almost no contact with customers.

We're seeing a lot of people

Whenever I've done the job search, the main thing I look for is ease of commute, since my availability depends on the bus schedules. Money is the other big factor, because if I don't make at least a certain amount per month, I have trouble covering my expenses.

Money is a factor, but I would take Job B if the benefits were better and cheaper, and the atmosphere were better along with dependability during a bad economy. I have kids, so a certain amount of money is necessary, but I've found that taking another job just for the money never works out.

It depends, really, on if the hours make up for the drop in pay. If I'm guaranteed 33+ hours with $1.50 less then I'm making now and the job is within a decent drive time, then I'd take it. If it doesn't, I'd take Job A or stay at my current job where I know I get the first pickings if someone calls out on days I'm off.

                      B. In this case, B is ALWAYS the better bet (in the long run.) The only exception is if A is exponentially more lucrative. I was given the opportunity to finish my time in the Air Force and join with KBR, going to Iraq on contract with an annual salary of $142,000. However, there were literally NO benefits, no insurance, and the ever present chance of getting my ass shot off. Instead, I went Reserve, was activated for a year anyway, went to Iraq anyway (as a 2Lt, O-1E) making appx $60,000 for that year. So for me, B was literally $80k+ in loss, but I gained Tricare, SGLI, combat pay, hazardous duty pay, separation pay, and had a helluva support network. In the end, with all benefits tied in, the "salary" for that year in Iraq was more than what KBR offered, even though it was less cash.
