WFM does sound like a pretty good place to work. I know it's a neat store. I went there with my mom a few weeks ago when she visited. Yeah, yeah I work at a grocery store and visited another grocery store. Actually my store carries many of the same brands, just not in the same quantities.

On the bonuses, does everyone qualify or is it only certain people? I know where I work only the managers and some of the perimeter department managers get bonus. We always know that it's close to bonus tiime when we get the 'Cut Hours! We don't care how much you have to do! Cut Hours! Blargleblargleblah!'
Everyone qualifies - they call it a Labor Surplus payout. You don't get it until you're a Team Member - you're not an official team member until you get voted on by your coworkers at your second meeting (meetings are once a month). Each department has their own labor budget, if the department comes in under budget, a portion of the remainder goes into a labor pool, a portion goes to the store labor surplus payout (which everyone gets), the rest is distributed to the members of the department. If we come in over budget, no bonus that month and we dip into the labor pool. At the end of the year, whatever's left in the pool is paid out to the entire department. Clear as mud, right?

Management has their own bonus system, I have no idea how it works.

We haven't cut hours at all, in fact we're back up to 40 hours a week on paper (I'm usually asking them if they want me to stay late if we're busy, I think I wound up with about 41.5 this week), and we're still coming in under budget.

We're the exact opposite. We cut hours like crazy (it's getting annoying), though our customer count is the same, and sales have stayed pretty much the same, yet we go over budget a little too often. Maybe it's because us FES have to keep keeping people over their scheduled time because its so freaking busy!

If they ever open a WFM in my area, I am so jumping ship. I like my job and all and I like the people I work with, but I fully agree with Iradney's sentiments on loyalty and dogs. Still more pay, a chance at a bonus, and full medical insurance would be too good to pass up. Heck, that might even be worth the commute into North Arlington depending on the starting pay.

Starting pay at all of the metro stores is $10.00/hour for entry level positions (Richardson may be less, they're a very old, low volume store with a whopping 6 registers). It's hard to get hired on as anything but entry level though.

Some stores give you an extra $0.25/hour for moving to cashier. Mine used to.

The medical insurance kind of sucks - high deductible ($1300) and it doesn't cover mental health or substance abuse, as I learned the hard way - though it did cover my ER + ICU visit when I was going through alcohol withdrawal. But after you hit 800 hours, you get a healthcare flexible spending account. I think your first calendar year you only get a few hundred (prorated to the point that you hit 800 hours), but after that it's $1200+. And the money the company puts on it rolls over year to year (any money you put on it yourself doesn't though).

It really is a neat place to work, it's by far the best company I've worked for.

If you're in Ft Worth, a store is supposed to open there within 3-5 years, they already have a lease on the land (I don't know where it is though).

That's good to know on the possible new store. By then I'll probably be better off staying where I am unless I start out in management. If nothing else though it will be nice to have a WFM closer for things we can't get at my store.

My boss came up to me and told me when my interview is today (it's early next week). So I have a little time to prepare.

He also told me I've really impressed him lately and my interview should go really well.

I'm still worried about 1 person I'm going up against. The others, not so much.

I lost the chance to even interview.

We had a store meeting at 6:30 am the other day - I got off at 11pm the night before, and normally don't go in until 3pm or so. I overslept and showed up 39 minutes late to the meeting, 30+ minutes late is an automatic writeup.

That writeup put me on "final notice", which disqualified me from moving anywhere in the company for 6 months, even transfers.

I can't fault my boss for writing me up, he's just following company policy. *sigh*

Who schedules a store meeting at 6:30 in the morning? Seriously.

Ouch! I'm sorry to hear that. I hope something even better opens up for you in the next six months or so.

Man that sucks. Though who schedules a meeting at 6:30 in the morning?! I doubt that even I would have been on time.

7 1/2 hours difference between when you get off work and when the meeting was scheduled? You should petition to get that write up removed or at least reduced. I personally can't fault you for oversleeping under those circumstances.

It might not work, but it's at least worth a try.

I had the previous day off, so that won't fly.
