We're starting an actual overnight shift at the cable company. I volunteered mostly because I'm tired of working weekends... right now I work both Saturdays and Sundays, and even in my former job, I worked two out of three weekends. Since I have enough rank to get a Monday through Thursday schedule on overnights, I decided to take it. (There's also a hefty shift differential.)
Now that I've formally committed to it, I'm starting to get nervous. It's not the hours so much -- during those times when I don't have to follow a schedule, I usually wind up going to bed around sunrise anyway.
The problem is that I'm starting to worry about who's going to call in at 3AM. I have this vision of people coming home from the bars all properly pissed and ready to exorcise their demons with some demented drunk blogging -- only to find themselves stymied by an internet connection gone bad. It's hard enough dealing with my customers when they're (presumably) sober.
Anybody else deal with the public during the wee hours?
