"You won't take them? It's just off by one day!!!!"
Something tells me if Officer Friendly pulled me over and my license had expired the day before, he would not take the above excuse. Expired is expired. Doubly so for people who have attitudes about it.

Also, now that I think about it, let's say someone orders a drink from me. I ask them for ID, and they hand me an ID that indicates they turn 21 tomorrow. Do you think I am going to serve them that drink? No. "But why not? It's just off by one day!!!!" Um, because I don't want to lose my job and explain to His Honor why I served someone who was not, in the eyes of the law, of legal drinking age.

    Etc., etc., etc.

We're told to have common sense when it comes to coupons - so if its for only a small amount, take it anyway, whether they have the item or not or whether its expired. If its a higher value coupon thats expired/don't have the item or they are trying to use lots of coupons for items they don't have, then we can't accept those. If they have a similar item we can take those too, as its a bit of a nightmare looking through the whole bill when they hand you the coupon at the end.

However our competitor takes ANY coupon- expired; for any item they don't have; even competitors coupons. They took a coupon at the competitors store for the lady in front of me once which was for £10 off when you spent £50 - which was a coupon for my store. She hadn't even spent £50. I don't know how they can make money from that - but hey, they're doing better than us, I guess it works somehow, by keeping the customers going to their store rather than ours.

But...but...but...in some parts of the world, it's already tomorrow.

Sorry. Couldn't resist that one. One of mine and my nephew's favorite excuses for/against "Pick On Elizabeth Day." <---long, involved story here...sort of. LOL.

I've had people cut the experation dates off of their coupons and try to use them anyway. Which backfires in their face because we're not allowed to take them like that.
Even if the date were cut off accidentally? The man of the household has hand tremors. I don't trust him near me with scissors, so there goes the easiest person to ask for a free haircut.

Yesterday, my front end manager got a customer who had a receipt with an expired coupon. If the coupon in question falls in with the date of the receipt the employees at the service desk can accept it. In this case, the FEM couldn't accept the coupon since the dates didn't fall into the same time line. The customer mentioned that she was told over the phone that she could do it and that she's been away. The FEM mentioned that she couldn't accept the coupon since it didn't match the date on the receipt and the customer wasn't happy about that. She even threatened to take her business to our competition.

I've had someone say to me "Just because they're expired doesn't mean they're not still valid. I want to talk to a manager!"

He wound up getting the discount
That's all these scummy people have to do over getting a 15 cent discount on something. My favorites are the ones that use a coupon for another company, such as someone who has a coupon for Kraft cheese slices, and try to get the discount on Borden instead. I actually saw that once, the SC saying the companies were related, and she was not going to leave the check out line until her coupon was accepted. The manager approved it just to get rid of her.

                My store is much stricter!

                Wow! Just. . .wow!!!

At S______ we're told to never take expired coupons, coupons for items not bought, US coupons, competitor's coupons or coupons with cut off or blacked out expiry dates. The coupon has to be valid, readable, not tampered with, and for that exact item or we don't take it. And the company really does enforce the policy.

Was the employees comment to her "See you next week?"
