Yesterday the garage was reserved for one main event. The event was sponsored by another company, not a dept. at the university.
This event lasted all day, & people came & went at different times. The first customer to exit pressed the call box to let me know that the company that sponsored the event did not have tokens to give to anyone. So I called the Parking office to let them know. I was told by "Nancy" that someone from the company had not stopped by the Parking office to get the tokens they paid for to distribute to the people attending the event & that the guest had to go back to where the event was being held & speak to them & that I could not raise the exit gate for the guest. I had to go up to the exit gate & tell her that. I also told her that if they could not help her to go to the Parking office on the third floor & see what they could do for her. I lost count of how many guests told me the same thing this guest told me. Because of this, I called the Parking office again & was told that the guests either have to 1) speak to the people over the event about that or 2) buy a token for $5.00 at the Parking office. I was told that I could not raise the exit gate for anyone.
I do not know why I could not just keep a count of how many times I had to raise the exit gate for guests who did not receive a token so the Parking office could invoice the company for the parking. I do not understand why they made it difficult for the guests attending the event. It was not their fault that someone from the company had not gone to the Parking office to pick up the tokens they purchased. This event is a two day event. It is being held this Friday & Saturday.
I would not blame the guests attending the event if they sent a complaint letter to the Parking office & to the company sponsoring the event.
Name dropping customer:
Customer pulls up to the booth window & tells me "my bride is graduating from this university this semester, & I am here to attend her cake cutting ceremony." I tell him that I understand 1) that his wife will soon graduate from the university, & 2) that he his here to attend her cake cutting ceremony, but 1) that the garage is reserved, 2) that I do not have any parking spots available for anyone, & 3) that I am not allowed to let anyone park. I then give him alternative parking suggestions. Since it is a Friday, & there are no classes on Friday's, there are plenty of empty parking spots around the campus. He then says "do you know if they are many parking spots that are available or just one parking spot that is available?" I just listen to what he is saying. He then says "Can you call the President's office for me?" I call the Parking office. "Nancy" answers the phone. I explain the situation to her, & she asks me what his name is. I get the information for her. She tells me to let him in. Apparently he works at another campus within the university system. He thanks me for letting him park.
