  • Customer who brought her sick kid to the university

Due to several spots needing to be reserved today there was very limited first come first serve parking. It is cold outside, & it is cold inside the Visitor parking garage.

Several people for the main event arrived around 8 a.m., & several people arrived after that. At one point I had to put the big white sign stating Visitor Parking is closed for an event in front of the entrance gate. As I was walking back to the booth after putting the sign out I noticed a car at the booth window. After entering the booth I opened the window to assist the customer. Here is what happened.

female customer with 2 kids in the backseat: "Oh, no....the garage is closed?!"
    me: "Correct"
female customer: "I am only here to go to the bookstore to buy back my books"
me: "I'm sorry, but I am not allowed to disregard the sign blocking the entrance to the garage for anyone not on the event list"
female customer" "What is the name of the event? Maybe my name could be put on the list."
me: "What is the name of the event you are here for today?"
female customer: *frustrated at this point* "No, I just want to know the name of the event so I can park"
me: "I'm afraid I am not at liberty to reveal that information"
female customer: "My kid has a cold. So where do I park?"
me: "You can either park at the metered lot behind you *not far from the campus at all* or at the lot on North 2nd street"
*even if she could park in the garage, it is very cold in the Visitor parking garage*
female customer: *looks at me in disbelief*: My kid has to has to walk in the cold?!?! he has a cold!!!"
me: "It's out of my hands, I'm sorry"
female customer: "Can I park in the staff garage?"
me: "That is up to the parking office"
female customer: "So how do I get over there?"
me: "I will raise the gate for you to go to the left. You have to ask the parking office"

I watch her at the entrance to that garage. She backs up after speaking at the call box & leaves.

"Melissa", who works in the parking office, came down to the Visitor parking garage to get the tokens people use to exit the garage. I had some tokens left over from an event last week. The dept. over the event wanted me to give them to their guests. I told her what happened. She told me the lady asked them if she could park in Visitor parking even though it is closed for an event. She was told no, she could not park. She also mentioned that her sick child should not have been out in the cold weather.

You know, i understand having a sick child and not being able to go places, or having to make alternate arrangements BUT dont expect people to cater to you. Ugh. Leave the sick kid @ home where they should be. My PSA for the day. lol.
