This incident happened this Monday.
Some background information pertaining to this post...
Whenever I have to leave the Visitor parking booth I have to call the Parking office before leaving & call them when I return. Plus there are 2 signs near the Visitor parking entrance stating that Visitor Parking is $5.00, & there are 3 more signs inside the garage stating that Visitor Parking is $5.00. I also place the big white portable sign stating that the parking fee is $5.00 in front of the 2 gates near the Visitor parking booth.
The phone inside the Visitor parking booth rings. There is a car at the exit gate. Here is what happened.
me: "Hi, how may I help you?"
female customer at the exit gate: "Hi, I did not get a ticket when I came. The gates were up, & I thought it was free parking today."
I was not told that Visitor Parking is free
It is confusing because there is a ticket machine at the entrance gate, but a ticket is not needed to pay for your parking. It has been this way since I started working at the university I work at as a contract parking attendant in 2006. The entrance gate automatically goes up when you approach it.
me: "Oh...I have no way of raising the gate for anyone wanting out for free. If you want free parking, you can ask the parking office on the 3rd floor. *I give her directions*. Just go to the parking office and ask them."
She backs up, & she exits several minutes later by using a token. Looks like she was told parking is not free.
