My immediate supervisor at the parking company I work for is having me work at a parking garage he is over on a temporary basis since my hours at the univeristy I work at as a contract visitor parking attendant have been changed to 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday...30 hours a week. I worked Black Friday because the university is closed for the Thanksgiving holiday as well as Saturday.
The company that owns the garage is having a free parking promotion. There is a small shopping mall located near the parking garage. There are retail stores as well as restaurants located inside that mall. There are certain guidelines you have to follow in order to get the free parking...
The company that owns the garage sent a memo to the retail establishments as well as to the restaurants explaining the free promotion plus the guidelines that have to be followed. The parking company also received the memo. The coupons also explain the guidelines that have to be followed. The retail establishments as well as the restaurants were given the colored coupons to give to the customers.
I have to stamp the customers receipt & give it back to them. I have to keep the colored coupon and the ticket the customer pulled.
Black Friday:
Customer tried to exit after 6 p.m. & get free parking. She told me she went to one of the restaurants. I told her she had to exit by 5:30. She kept on repeating the fact the she went to one of the restaurans. So I repated that she had to exit by 5:30 p.m. She ended up paying for her parking, but she was not happy.
Saturday:
Customer pulled up to the booth window, & gave me the colored coupon for Black Friday. She told me that she parked somewhere else on that day, that she was given the coupon, & that she wanted to use it. I told her 1) she had to have the colored coupon for Saturday's & Sunday's, 2) she had to have a receipt with the current date, & 3) she had to spend $10.00 or more. She told me 1) the coupon does not state that, 2) she did not buy anything that day, & 3) she & her daughter went to one of the stores, & all she did was walk around. I showed her the guidelines that are stated on the coupon. She kept on repeating herself. So I repeated myself. She repeted herself again. So I had the MOD on duty speak to her. The MOD explained the guidelines to her & told her that if she had a receipt with the current date indicating that she spent $10.00 or more plus the colored coupon for Saturday's & Sunday's, she could exit for free. Otherwise she had to pay the parking fee. The customer was not happy that she had to pay the parking fee. She told the MOD "this is rediculous."
Another customer told me that the retail establishment she went to gave her the Black Friday coupon for her to use. I told her she could not use that, & that she should have received the colored coupon for Saturday's & Sunday's insead of for Black Friday. She was nicer than the customer above. She had to pay the parking fee. I told the MOD what happened regarding the retail establishment.
A third customer told me that the waiter at the restaurant he went to did not tell him he had to save his receipt. I told him he had to have his receipt in order to qualify for the free parking, & that he could go back to the restaurant & get one since he arrived at the parking booth before 5 p.m. He chose to pay the parking fee instead.
Lastly, an employee at one of the retail establishments tried to use the colored coupon to exit, but she did not have her receipt. She told me 1) she did not save her receipt & 2) she worked at one of the stores. She had to pay for her parking.
