Well apparently, single people without kids live for free!!!
Wow, I wish someone had told me that when I was 20 years old and busting my ass trying to keep my crappy one-bedroom apartment in the city. Here I could have had it all for free, and I was paying for it like a dumbass.

        Score one for blas

Too bad you can't tell those old geezers off... Just because a person is young has no bearing on the value they place on work. That comes down to the individual's sense of responsibility.

              And the irony???

Guess who mostly volunteered for the layoff?

You guessed it; the older people. At the last minute, the deadline day, last Friday.

Those who were so adament that they HAD to keep their jobs, they HAD to stay, there was no way in hell a damn child was going to stay over them....

Odd how things work out, huh?

I think the dumb old arseholes finally realized it'd be a good time to use their paid vacation and go somewhere warm. And hopefully, never come back.

Guess their kids didn't need food so badly afterall.

Its great that they're gone, people with that kind of attitude deserve to leave, its just a shame they did it by choice

                  Congratulations!

Blas, I totally agree as to layoffs, it should be based on how well you do the job.

One question, though. How old are these people?

Some are my parents age (40s) and some are even older. All have been through the years and know everything *eyeroll*. I can see why it's intimidating to see ambitious young people at work, but instead of embracing it, they insist on calling us stupid and trying to get us in trouble.

*these are not people in my work area.....none of them would ever dare treat me like that, one lady already found out the hard way what happens when you try to get me fired for things that aren't true*

Some of the younger adults like those in their mid to late 20s were the ones whining about how they cannot be laid off because they have a family.

Those older employees need to keep their noses out of other peoples' business. As for your own job: The news on that calls for a sexy party: *cue Stewie Sexy Party*

Did any of the married with children employees get laid off?

Correction: I just saw the voluntary layoff after I posted this.

                        Ageism works both ways

Please be careful when you generalize. Ageism runs both ways.

I'm considerably older than your parents and I would like to state that not everyone my age thinks they are all that and a bag of crisps and know everything.

I find this statement quite hurtful, even though it is not directed at me personally...I work with quite a few people your age and not only do I not treat them this way, many of them have thanked me for helping them via the benefit of my long-term experience at my job.

                        Just a thought.

Lemon, I am sorry if I offended you, I just was very agitated that I was basically being told (by people with no say in it whatsoever) that I wasn't worthy of staying, that I was just a typical, lazy, drunken loser college age child who has no finanical responsibilities and am spoiled by my parents. It's not true at all.

One of the downfalls of working where I work is that are there are "cliques", just like in high school. There are people there so bored and sick with their own lives and where it's led them that they feel they have to bring down anyone that might enjoy their job or seem to be going somewhere very fast. Most of these people are many years older than I am.

I suppose the "clique" thing can happen in any place of employment, but I have found that certain group of people to be a real pain the ass. Fortunately, those aren't the people I work with directly. They are in other departments, but are always out smoking or in the bathroom when I am. The garbage that spews out of their mouths is asbolutely disgusting.

"There shoudn't be any decision making involved.......get rid of these stupid kids around here, they don't know what real work is!"

"Why don't you just take the layoff, blas, you have nothing to pay for you don't have a family you don't understand the toll this takes on people with families."
Well I guess that explains why all the homeless people are young and single.
"several million years for a monkey to turn into a man. oh wait thats right. monkeys dont live several million years."

I haven't seen too many young, single homeless people around.... most of them are older men or women who are either mentally ill, or whose lives just fell down around them. One sweet old man, when I lived on the streets as well, bought me a very pretty dress at goodwill, asked me to put it on and dance with him, since he'd never gotten to dance with his daughter at her wedding. I miss him a lot, even fourteen years later.

Most of the younger single ones have apartments and such, or live in cheap fleabag rooming houses and beg on the streets because it's easier than getting a job (and most of them know EXACTLY where to go for free handouts, and aren't starving in the slightest).
