Chromatix, that would require actually looking at reports in detail and maybe comparing what was sold--on each register--with actual inventory. Which would require our beancounters hire people who know their shit with that sort of thing. Which not only makes sense, but costs money.
Depending on the register, I can scan at a fairly good clip; some will only 'allow' one item every 2 or 3 seconds (even though I know every item hit the scanner it may only get one). Not sure if the glass is scratched to hell, the software sucks (programmed to force cashiers to slow down and thus keep metrics low), the scale itself is bad, or a combination of all three.
I'm definitely faster with the hand scanner; unfortunately I only have two hands and can't hold the gun while slinging items.
