Joint Commission is coming through the system. Which is always loads of fun. Thankfully, I haven't had to work during this time, but I have gotten the reports. Sometimes I wonder about these people. Among the list of "improvements" are:
--No more Nitrile gloves as part of a "good stewardship" effort. WTF is wrong with the Nitrile gloves?! I actually like those kind because I can actually feel what I'm doing. The vinyl kind they're buying now suck really bad. Can't feel a darn thing with them.
--This is the one that made me go bwuh? Sheets should not go on a stretcher/imaging table before the patient gets in the room. We want our patients to feel comfortable and knowing the sheet is clean is part of that process. Therefore, the patient should see us pull a clean sheet out of the cabinet and place it on the table.
SERIOUSLY?!
When my department is slammed and I'm rotating several patients at once, there is no freaking way I'm going to make a patient stand there while I get them a clean sheet (I'm especially not doing it if it's going to make my cardiologist wait. They get titchy). What's going to happen is I'm gonna be waving goodbye to one patient while throwing a clean sheet on the table before running out to get the next one.
This is why I hate Joint Commission mandates. Just like every other corporate moron, they have no idea what their underlings do on a daily basis. Granted, Joint Commission is responsible for a lot of patient safety. But the other half of their stuff is stupid.
