  • Why won't you help me????

I thought that having two weeks off work would limit my contact with SC's, but had one today. Was in the DVD section, staring longingly at all the movies I wanted and couldn't afford, when a little old lady walks up and stares with me.

OL: Can you see a film named Borat?
Me: Oh yeah, there it is. *Points it out*
OL: Oh thank you very much!
    Me: You're welcome.
    OL: While I have you...
    Me: *thinks* uh oh....
OL: Can you help me find these DVDs? They are for my grandchildren you see...
Me: Oh, I'm sorry, I can't, I have to leave...
OL: Please, it'll only take a minute.
Me: Well I think pretty much all the DVDs are in alphabetical order...
OL: Please, I dont understand, why won't you help me?
Me: I'm sorry, but I have to go, and I don't work here...
OL: Why won't you help me???
Me: OK, I'm outta here. *walks away*

Old lady walks up to an employee, I only hear bits of what she was saying

OL: Can you believe him...not helping me...you should report him to the manager.

It would have been nice to help out someone...she wasnt being rude about it or anything.

Well, she asked for one thing and he helped her, but then she's got a whole list? Iffy, I guess. I might have tried to flag down an employee for her...Though if she was nice I probably would have helped her find them anyway. Maybe it was more a matter of a younger person having better vision...

Uh, no. While it would have been nice, it would have also been above and beyond the call.

She walked up and handed a total stranger her list to take care of?

I thought you were being nice... you pointed her in the right direction, I don't think you should have to hold her hand and give her the dvd to be nice. You kindly told her you could not help her. You did not say right out front, "nope cannot help you." You tried to help her.

Now, no one ever accused me of being Miss Manners, but I am all about respect for your elders so long as they behave themselves. However, when you ask someone for help and they politely decline, you don't keep harping after them because of it, you say "thank you anyway" and you let it go. Just because one asks doesn't automatically mean one gets. Life sucks, get a helmet.

Granted, this seems to be a case of a confused old lady since she couldn't seem to grasp the concept of "I don't work here" but hey, we can't all be their custodians. If anyone wants me to take care of every confused old lady I come across, they better give me the money to go to school and become a geriatric nurse.

Ok, I can't believe what I'm reading. So, because this woman is old and polite means that customersruinmylife should volunteer to be her personal shopper? He already was helpful and showed her to one movie... he doesn't work there, so why should he be obligated to find everything on her list for her?

                  you don't work there, right??

if you do, i would have just told her , maam.i'd.love.to.help.you.but.my.ride.is.here.and. I.gotta.go.or.they'll.leave.me, sorry.bye (run-on sentence with no room for butting in)

i mean, you helped her, being nice, but she was gonna totally attatch and feed offa you for a while...i get why you ran...let those on the clock be chum-packs.
You have the right to behave badly. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a blog of my choice.

I was not saying that...I hope you didn't read that into my post. I am probably too nice for my own good sometimes, and I only might help her further if she was nice about it. When she starts whining and doesn't listen when told he doesn't work there...I would escape real quick too.

(For the record, my first post was sarcastic...)

I'm not the OP, so I did not help out the customer. But, yes, I would have helped her out. Thats just how I am.
