Dont antagonise the Bar Tender

So, this was a co-worker, but not at work hence posting it in sightings. Also, Jester, you'd be proud of me XD

Background: Now, CW can be loud by default, and excitable XD. its who she is, she's always like that.
Recently we had work drinks to help everyone relax after some very busy stressful weeks. CW had not had any alcohol there, and we all went to near by regular bar afterwards to catch up with other work mates.

I came inside the bar to get a drink, and CW was getting argumentative with the Bar-man (bar keep? bar tender?) that she had only had one glass, but he had cut her off already. I told her that irregardless of how much she had, or what she thought of it, it was his call, and his call was final. She tried complaining about it again, and I repeated, it was his call, and thats that. She calmed down and agreed with me and went back outside with the others. Barman said thanks to me, and gave me a discount on my drink. He also mentioned that they had to cut people off if they suspected they were under the influence of other things, which was why he cut off CW. I told him I understood, but that she was like that by default.

I did feel sorry for him. There was only two staff, on a friday night, one of whom had been working since opening that morning (they do meals too) and they were swamped. Talked to CW at work the following Monday, and she did understand afterwards.

I dunno, I wouldnt' say Stoned lol. Not quite that mellow. Maybe speed? XD I don't know enough about drugs and what causes what... which is .... good.. i guess? XD

Just curious, but how can a bartender tell the difference between a person who's intoxicated, and someone with Cerebral Palsy?

Wolfie, I'd guess people who are aware the bartender might misunderstand their situation might make an effort to become a regular, so the staff would get to know them and understand they ain't trouble.
(speaking as a tabletop gamer, finding a pub where the staff don't bat an eyelid when we're discussing how we're going to shoot Fred/blow up the planet is a major plus) :-)

Ah, yes, bartending. The one profession where you can tell a customer "no" and management will support you. (If you serve to someone already intoxicated, most jurisdictions will hold the bar at fault if something happens. Can't take the chance.)

So, in this case the bartender made a judgement call and was incorrect. Still, though, as you said - he's the final word, and he can't afford to lose his license.

I actually have a friend who is naturally clumsy. She'll be just barely tipsy and start using the wall to walk and will get flagged. So, naturally, she adapts by having me get up and get her all of her drinks. I can be absolutely WASTED and still have better coordination than she does. I once walked into the bar, up a step into a door, up another step, got drinks, down the step, opened the door with two drinks in my hands and the door opens INWARD, down another step, and back to the barstool.

I was so drunk I didn't even remember what I got as a drink and I still got served. She can't even leave her barstool without tripping while stone-sober.

Having bartended before yes, the bartender has final say, period. My brother constantly has issues at bars because of SEVERE allergies to almost everything on the planet, his eyes are permanently bloodshot.

I'm a naturally clumsy type. I solved this problem by patronizing the same bar for nearly 20 years. The few times I've been to a different bar in the last year have mostly been with Jester, and a few of those occasions were with Jester as the bartender, and since he knows me, that qualifies for "make sure the bartender knows you" as well.

Somebody mentioned people with problems like CP. This bar I frequent has several customers with medical issues who've been customers as least as long as I have. There's one couple that the man has CP and the woman has muscular dystrophy. The bar staff is aware of their medical issues and how much they can drink before they get into trouble.
