Okay so this was so weird. We're holding interviews where I work for several positions. The majority of calls that get transferred to me are for two specific "types" of positions. I've made some phone calls to schedule interviews and another person has also done so.
So anyway, I get this phone call today:
SJH = stupid job hunter
me = me
SJH: "yeah someone called me from this number about a job"
me: "okay, it could have been me or there is another woman scheduling interviews. I'm not really sure. But what's your name, I can get ask the person you would be interviewing with if they have your resume. What position were you applying for"
SJH: I'm not really sure. What's that person's name?
me: Their name is _____. Did they call you? No, Okay, well we're looking for ____ and _____. Did you apply for either of those positions?
SJH: Well I'm not sure. Probably not the first one, my background really isn't in that. My background is in ______.
Me: okay well we're not hiring for that right now.
SJH: Well I think I got a call from there. I was just trying to figure it out.
me: okay well I told you that we have these positions open ___ and ____.
SJH: I'm not really interested in working with _____ (something the job would require)
me: Okay then, well I'm not sure you applied for either of these positions then. They would require working with _____.
SJH: well could you just look for my resume and see what I applied for?
me: Okay - but were you interested in either of the positions I told you we were hiring for?
SJH: I'm not sure. I guess if I submitted my resume that I was interested. I really asked to be contacted by e-mail.
Me: (why does that matter?) Okay well I've just described the positions to you a little bit. They would involve working with _____. You do know what business this is, don't you?
SJH: oh yeah. But I'm not sure what I applied for - so could you just look for me?
Me: but I've told you about the positions - if it's not something you're interested in, then why would we want to schedule an interview?
SJH: Oh you don't have to schedule an interview. I just want to know what I applied for....
Me: um okay sure. I'll give you a call if we find your resume...
I just hung up after that - why would we want to waste an extra second on you? You don't know what you applied for, you don't sound interested in the positions available, yet you want me to go rummage through resumes to find yours so that I can call you back and tell you WHAT you applied for??? How does that make any sense at all? Why would I spend even one more second on this person???
By the way - the blanks aren't anything dirty. We work with some really confidential information, so I can't say a whole lot about the business or the positions..... might give away what "company" it is and I can't do that. But what a weird conversation, huh??
