when i used to take the train to philly every day it went behind the zoo...couldn't see any animals, though...just the backs of some buildings through the trees

the stupidity of this comment reminds me of the poor meerkats who died because of an idiot mother refusing to keep charge of her equally stupid offspring;

Only 5 meerkats in the exhibit?
My friend and I went to the zoo once, and his brother kept shouting to see the meerkats, so we did. There were DOZENS of them in the exhibit.

Moving on to another exhibit set in the corner (these were all in rooms with glass viewing windows), I saw adults pick up the rope blocking off the space about 6" from the window not once, but on two different occasions!

I'm reminded of this lovely creature.

I used to have a Binky tee shirt, but I gave it to my old teacher, because she collected Binky stuff. I wish I hadn't now, though. Binky was my hero.

And that ropes, bars, fences and glass panels are there for a reason?

Admittedly I wondered why they used glass in the monkey house instead of bars in our local zoo - I didn't know until years later that bored or agitated monkeys are known to throw feces at people... Thank Gord I didn't find out the hard way.

This thread makes me wish I could find an image somewhere of the sign next to the lion's enclosure the last time I was at a zoo.

If the lion turns his back on you, clear the area. Trust me.
