I have had very few interactions with the police force. I have been a passenger in a car that was pulled over three times. All three times the driver was doing something illegal, all three times both the drover and the cop were civil.
My boyfriend and his family have had problems with his mom for a while now. She is emotionally abusive and it can escalate to physical abuse. Not too long ago my boyfriend was visiting me when his younger brother called to tell him that their mom was having another instance of abuse with their dad. Their dad never fights back nor do any of the kids. They each have their own way of dealing with the abuse but they were getting sick of it. So, we called the cops.
My boyfriend is 18, his younger brother is 16. The cops met us in a parking lot and took a full report and then escorted us back to the house. I didn't go inside because I felt it was a family affair and I didn't want to embaress their dad (he's a sweet guy and I know he doesn't like any part of these situations.) From what I understand, the mom freaked about the cops being called on her. They were trying to calmly ask her about the situation and trying to blame her family. The whole time she was yelling at the cops they just took it and tried to help the family anyway they could.
There was also a case when our moped was stolen from outside our house. Because none of us were using it daily, we didn't notice right away and we realized it could have been gone for days. We are only about an hour or two from mexico so we figured it was already there thrown in a scrap pile. Within a couple days of reporting it, they had found it. We were very grateful
Of course, I am sure it helped that the burglars knew nothing about hotwiring (or realizing the sparkplug was bad) and just threw it in a bush in a field not too far from our house.
