  • Well, here I go.

As some of you know, I'm an administrator on an adult website. The site has been on the net for 6 years and it's been free, as a matter of fact they use the same vBulletin software used here.

    Her come the suck.

The owner made the site a paysite as of 6am today. People who have been members for 5 years are climbing out of the woodwork and are finally making their FIRST post in all that time to use all kinds of profanity toward the owner, me and my co-volunteers. Imagine the suck that you get in your jobs and compound that by horny guys not being able to get their daily (or hourly in some cases) dose of porn.

Do any of them read the entire post made by the owner? NOOOOOO!

Long time members and those people who have contributed material to the site get free memberships, but all they see are the dollar signs.

    Pray for me.

I bet it's not even a huge amount, is it?

When I get time, I'm going to do a little merchandising. I need to get the second load of files from Jennie for the cartoon prints I'm intending (easy to post, considering most of the interested parties will the in the US), and I'm going to go the Cafepress route at some point. However, donations and the like ... I saw first-hand what that lead to on a MUD I used to moderate on that took donations for ingame benefits.

"You can't chastise me - I donated to the game!" This is despite the large element of the rules saying that this was no defence.

It's the main reason I decided to just fund this place out of my own pocket - I can, and I do, and I treat it as a hobby instead of a business. I don't have to stress over breaking even, and I don't have to do much in the way of accounting.

The subscription will run $40.00 per year but they can get free subscriptions if they have already posted, or will in the future, post 100 pictures or video file chunks. The site was averaging 150 mb/sec bandwidth usage in downloads. Since the conversion that went down to 7. Being it's an adult site, they can't go the usual route of accepting Paypal or many other online payment handling services. The site has 135,000 registered members, 20,000 active members. There are 25,000+ threads with a total of nearly ½ million total posts and we average 2,000 people (visitors and members) online at any given time. At least that was until yesterday morning. When I just left the site, there were 325 total guests and members there.
