      Barbecue is fairly American. The word (from the history of Barbecue show I saw on the Food Channel - just so you know the source of my info) is from a Carob Indian word whose gist is 'sacred smoke.' But they gave credit to the modern pulled pork barbecue to the Carolinas. Oh man, now I gotta go get some barbecue, hush puppies, and Brunswick stew.....mmm, mmm.

      I gotta laugh at anyone wanting 'American Food', that's just my default for anything unclaimed by other cuisines.
