    No sandwich! Kerblooey!!

    This thread reminded me of something that happened to my sister last week. She works in a restaurant in a strip mall, and someone in the space next to them broke a gas line. The smell of gas is rapidly filling the whole area, so they had to get everyone out, now. Except for sandwich lady.


    SW: Sandwich Lady

    SB: Sister's boss

    Sis: My lovely baby sister.


    SB: I need everyone to go out the front door. There is a gas leak. Please people, let's go, as quickly and calmly as you can.

    SW: What about my lunch!?! I already ordered my sandwich! I'm not just going to leave!

    Sis: You want to stay here and asphyxiate or worse? GAS LEAK! Smell it?

    SW: <moving to the door> I better get my sandwich. I'm not paying if I don't!

    SB: You'll get your sandwich or your money if this takes too long. GO!



    Come on. Gas explosions don't just happen on TV. Duh.

                  Oh man, this is just like what happened at my work one day.
                  We were evacuating the store (about 400 customers plus employees) because of a gas leak as well.
                  I was covering a greeter's break when it happened and was trying to get people out the door when everyone started to be ushered out.

                  A woman comes up to me to ask a question.

                  Woman: Can you tell me how much a certain bed is?
                  Me: No. We're evacuating the store right now and everyone has to leave.
                  Woman: Ok.
                  And she leaves.

                  But wait! We have two sets of automatic doors and once she gets through the first set she stops, then turns around and comes back inside.

                  Woman: So, how much is your delivery?
                  Me: We're evacuating, you have to leave. Now!
                  Woman: Ok.

                  And she leaves. Again. BUT, she's back, AGAIN!

                  Woman: I was wondering if...
                  Me: GET OUT! NOW!

                  By this time the fire department was already rushing into the store.
                  When I got to my manager I got reamed out for staying to get this woman out of the store.
                  I was told, "Next time leave her there. You need to get out first and if she doesn't leave when you tell her to she's not your responsibility anymore."
                  However my store's take on evacuation precedures is another rant altogether.

                    And she leaves. Again. BUT, she's back, AGAIN!

                    Woman: I was wondering if...
                    Me: "Hey lady! Are you a smoker?"
                    Woman: "W-well, yes, but-"
                    Me: "Smoking lounge is in the back. Have a good time!"
