  • Idiots on the highway

I live in Philadelphia and stupidly decided to take 676 across the city on my way home from work yesterday instead of taking Girard like I normally do. It was all backed up of course and lots of stop and go traffic and just generally barely crawling along. I get close to the interchange with 95 and hear a whole bunch of beeping.

There's a couple car lengths gap between me and the car behind me, which has a girl on her cell phone not really paying much attention. Behind her is another car that is acting agressive (swerving back and forth in the lane, etc). And next to her is an SUV that has come up on the shoulder, girl on cell phone won't let the SUV by and I do commend her for that even if it was just because she wasn't paying attention because I hate shoulder abuse like that.

I'm still crawling along and watching what is going on behind me. Swerving girl changes lanes and comes up next to girl on cell phone and I can see Swerving girl yelling at cellphone girl. Swerving girl then pulls in front of cell phone girl. She then STOPS and GETS OUT OF THE CAR and starts yelling at cell phone girl.

For those of you not familiar with the area, 676 is a 2 lane highway (for the most part) that cuts straight across downtown Philadelphia, and connects I-95 and I-76 together (two other major highways). Needless to say, it's a busy major road. This girl has now blocked one of the two lanes in the middle of rush hour just so she can get out and yell at another driver.

It went on for about a minute and I was about to call the police when the girl finally got back in the car and pulled away. The funny part was that cell phone girl seemed entirely unphased by the event. She just kept happily chatting away on her cell phone and didn't even seem to notice the girl standing in front of her car screaming at her.

The girl that got out of her car sounds like a girl my brother used to date. She's insane, yells and screams everything she says, takes joy in talking trash, etc--she once drove her car into a house. Lives in Philadelphia, coincidentally.
    Would you like a Stummies?

Wow talk about suicidal. They are lucky they did not get hit. At least the girl on the cell phone was with it enough to pay attention and stop and not get in an accident.

One short story I have to share. When the steelers made the superbowl I and a group of my friends drove to Pittsburgh to visit with another friend and watch the game. We were driving 80/90 which is the main toll road that runs east/west across northern Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania etc.

So on this particular night its snowing like mad in Ohio. Visibility is extremely low, the roads are extremely slippery, changing lanes is more like slaloming into the next lane all around crappy driving conditions. Now the whole time traffic is pulling 70 - 80 mph in these conditions. There is not a single accident on the road which has to be a bloody miracle. We cross the state line into PA, the weather clears up almost instantly. Clear roads, good visibility, changing lanes is actually changing lanes, IE pristine driving conditions. About 10 miles across the state line there is a 20 car pile up involving 4 semis and several smaller vehicles blocking up the road.

My buddy who was riding with me just whistles real low "Man I was expecting to see that before the weather cleared up."
