  • Not a Hotel, Buddy!

I had to have a sleep lab done last night (and found out I have sleep apnea, boo). In the morning after all was said and done they left me to shower and get changed out of my PJs and said to just open the door when I was done so they could lead me back outside.

Once I was done I opened the door and sat down on the edge of the bed to wait and could hear the techs talking. It seems a man (Not sure if it had just happened or was in the recent past) had come in, had a sleep lab done, been woken up in the morning and then had claimed that he was tired and requested they let him sleep there until noon. Obviously they told him that was not possible and that it was time for him to leave. At this point he apparently got belligerent and insisted that he had paid for this room and, by gosh, he was going to use it! The tech listening to the story scoffed at that and muttered that he had paid for a lab, that they weren't a hotel. Apparently when he was again refused he broke a clipboard, threw his remote across the room and then tried to upend the cabinet housing the TV. In the end security had to be called to escort him out.

Is it sad that, after seeing all the stories on here, this really didn't surprise me any? Yeesh.

Did you have to do the brain waves done to? I remember going through one where I had to be jumped in the hospitol cause I stopped breathing. But they found that on some nights...when I was in REM it was as if I was awake and doing something 'stressful' all parts of my brain active. Yay.

Hope all your results come back with little problems. Apena while scary can be treated.

I wouldnt say 'boo'. Being disagnosed with Apnea means you're about to get relief from it. The first night I wore the breathing machine, I woke up after 2 hours feeling more rested than I ever did after 8 hours of sleep previously. I had so much energy the next day that my personal trainer the next night at 9pm said I was bouncing off of the walls.

I say 'YAY, I get my life back now!'

Oooh, maybe you can answer a question for me then (since the tech isn't going to fit me for a CPAP until later as I'm only mild and my time was up for the lab)... do you -have- to lie on your back? If so it would do me no good. I just cannot sleep like that.

Trust me when I say that you can learn to lie however you have to. I despise lying on my back, but after hip replacement surgery a little less than a month ago, I had no choice. I finally have permission to lie on my good side, so that helps a little.

However...there are specialty pillows being made to accommodate CPAP machines, so no, I don't think you -have- to lie on your back.
Everything will be ok in the end. If it's not ok, it's not the end.

I'm glad to hear that. I can look into that for the man of the household.

(Yes, he has sleep apnea, and yes he has the CPAP machine. No, he doesn't use it often because it's "uncomfortable" to sleep with.)
