Last year I met a great guy who was the one-in-near infinity college student. He would party at least 1-2 nights every weekend (Thur to Sun here) and occasionally on a weekday. But even with all that partying, he went to most of his classes, studied everyday and passed all his classes with A's. He even once calculated how much beer he had bought and drank over the past year; it averaged out to about 1.34 a day."Oh, by the way..." All of my HATE

I'm an asshole, and I know it.
Reading this, yeah... ever get the feeling that there are some people who shouldn't have passed Middle School, let alone High School and gotten into College?
Thinking of the idiots who I met as a fresher, before deciding that I was better off earning than learning (yay dot com boom) some of the party cases, well. they ended up pretty badly off.
I can name four who didn't finish their second year. Drug overdoses can do that for you.
But I'm sure that year's average grades went up a notch with every prat who nose-snowed their life away. Literally.

When I went to college, my parents told me that while they were happy to buy my books, paper pads, pens and other crap, they would not subsidise my social life. >_> So I had to get a part time job. I basically spent roughly half the time knocking back pints in the local pub, but still got the grades. XD
As for sleeping thru class; subliminal learning, maybe? As in Brave New World? I think that's the book with it in.

I know plenty of kids that shouldn't have made it to college. It's amazing what happens when teachers pass kids because they don't feel like dealing with them another year."I've found that when you want to know the truth about someone, that someone is probably the last person you should ask." - House

Cougers suck, go Utes!
(guess who here is a Ute fan )
anyway, back on topic
This is why I like community college, a huge number of the people here are people paying for it themselves and do take it seriously because they know that they need to to get ahead. If you wish to find meaning, listen to the music not the song

Though you may be amused by this: there's a couple out here in CT where the wife is a BYU alum and the husband is a U of U alum. They only fight during the Big Game.
And indeed, there's something to be said for schools where everyone's paying their own way."Enough expository banter. It's time we fight like men. And ladies. And ladies who dress like men. For Gilgamesh...IT'S MORPHING TIME!"

Quoth Greenday View Post...Those people who party all the time and do tons of stupid crap do not lead the nation. So I'm not too drastically worried about the future of America because the majority of them won't make a difference."All I've ever learned from love was how to shoot somebody who out-drew ya"

Quoth Kheldarson View PostBut...book I recommend anybody under the age of 30 to read: The Dumbest Generation by Mark Bauerlein. It's about the importance of reading and why the Digital Enlightenment is failing."I can tell her you're all tied up in the projection room." Sunset Boulevard.

"The children now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for
authority, they show disrespect to their elders.... They no longer
rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents,
chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their
legs, and are tyrants over their teachers."
~Socrates
"I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on
frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond
words... When I was young, we were taught to be discreet and
respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly wise
[disrespectful] and impatient of restraint"
~Hesiod 8th century B.C.
"The young people of today think of nothing but themselves. They have
no reverence for parents or old age. They are impatient of all
restraint. They talk as if they alone knew everything and what passes
for wisdom with us is foolishness with them. As for girls, they are
forward, immodest and unwomanly in speech, behaviour and dress."
