And I notice that the civilizations and cultures of all these people DID crumble, just as they predicted.
Actually, Gurndigarn, Hesiod (8th century BC) and Socrates (5th century BC) were both Greek, and the Greece never really "crumbled", AFAIK. Sure, it got taken over by Rome and then dragged down when the Roman Empire fell apart and that whole Dark Ages debacle happened, but so did the rest of the western world.

Peter the Hermit was French, from what Wikipedia is saying, and their civilization didn't take a tumble until the 1700s, which is more than a few generations after he died.

So... um... yeah... not very accurate predictions.

And those are the people that I make me glad I live off campus.

I've noticed that all the party-ers live in the dorms. It seems that since they managed to escape the clutches of "mommy and daddy" they feel the need to go insane.

I'm a freshie in college and my goal is to avoid stupid parties like the plague. I actually want to get a degree, not get shitfaced. I living at home makes that so much easier...and cheaper.

        Agreed.

When I got to university, I went on exactly one pub-crawl and went to exactly one nightclub. Both of those experiences were enough to tell me that I didn't fit in and wasn't enjoying it.

So I spent what could otherwise have been my beer money... on computers. Lots of computers.

just to deviate from the norm...not all college students fit into those two types.
          Excellent points.

The problem with generalizing is that not everyone fits neatly into those little pigeonholes that people want to shove them into.

You can't always judge a book by its cover. Yes, actions speak, and some of the people mentioned have had their actions speak for them, but to label a person on their appearance, based on behaviour by people who also fit that general description seems really unfair.
Too tired of living and too tired to end it. What a conundrum.
