This is one I noticed on my old computer (12 GB or so hard drive, yah, it's ancient). I didn't want to use my usual program to format a RW disc (it takes like 10 minutes, as opposed to the 30 seconds my better computer uses), so I went into the help feature to see if the computer had any other way to do it. It did...and contained these instructions (paraphrasing, but basically this).
Step 3. Click the icon for the disk you wish to format.
Step 4. Be sure not to click the disk icon as the format will not operate while disk is selected.
...I just stared at it for a while, then used the usual method.
