Well with neighbors who sit in their yard with their car radios turned up, I just practice my fife. It ruins their enjoyment of their music and my other neighbors get all their noise in one dose instead of having to listen to me practicing when it's otherwise quiet. No complaints yet.

I can't really do that in the car though, seeing as I need my hands to drive.

If you're doing a bass vs. bass battle, the first few bars of Tocatta and Fugue in D Minor, played on pipe organ.

I thought "Duel of the Fates" was the Qui-Gon vs. Darth Maul fight music, not the podracing music.
I think it's used in both (and as a theme throughout the film). If you listen to it from the soundtrack album you can go "oohh, that chunk came from <scene>, that chunk came from <other scene>", the choral bit is used in the duel IIRC and the fast paced, loud bit is used in the pod race. Much the same way that the Imperial March was used throughout Episodes IV-VI in various guises

Hmm. I'll have to watch the movie again so I can listen. Gotta find a copy first, though....

What you need for that are bagpipes. Those can be heard, literally, for miles!

That didn't show up until "Empire", it wasn't in "A New Hope". John Williams hadn't written it yet.

Ah yes... Blasters. In Japan we don't really get blasters.

We get Bosozoku. And there's no way you can drown them out because it's not music they're blasting. It's their bike engines. And I'm talking dinky scooter bikes. They strip off the mufflers and add extras to the bikes to make them as loud as they can. My prefecture is famous for them. And my town has it's fair share. You can hear them on the other side of the giant hill behind my apartment! But they're usually good enough to stop after 11 most of the time. Now the karaoke place across the street from me... that's another topic. And it's never good karaoke.....

Poulenc Organ Concerto. that one wins hands down.

Seriously, back in the old LP days there really was an album of Classical blockbusters that was titled "Music to Break Leases by"

Just remembered something. If you go to the very end of the credits of "Phantom Menace" you'll hear it there. Very subtle. And you'll also hear the familiar sounds of the inter-galactic obscene phone caller!

Yeah, I know way more than anyone should about the music from "Star Wars".

Well, Anakin's Theme from Phantom Menace is supposed to use the same melody line, just in a different key or something. (I'm totally blanking on my musical terms here.)

If you want to win a battle of the stereos, use bagpipe music. If you can stand it.

The high freqs cut through darn near anything and hurt the ears more than heavy bass.

As I was reminded last Saturday night, bagpipes are louder than any concert I've ever been to! The chanter can get up to 122 decibels. But, for some reason, they don't hurt my ears.

They also had a tendency to scare the enemy. All you can see is mist and all you can hear is the skirling of the pipes....
