  • craziest sign I've seen

Everyone always laughs at some of the signs and warning labels put on various products or in various places to protect a person or business from liability, i.e. the moronic actions of some people. You know, like how in the owner's manual of your car it tells you not to try to change the engine belts with the engine running?

I went to one of those med-stop places yesterday. You go in, put your name on the list, then you get called over so they can put you into the system, etc. So I'm sitting in the little consultation area while they're running my insurance. Separating me from the office workers is a big glass partition with one of those circular metal things at mouth level that allows you to speak to the person on the other side. The glass even had one of those little diamond patterns etched into it.

So as I'm sitting there, I notice this little sign that's been taped up to the window: "WARNING: Please be advised you are separated from the person with whom you are speaking by a glass wall."

Wow. So what do you think happened to prompt them to put this sign up? I was picturing some sucky patient with a glass crown after they put their head through the thing (good thing they were already at a doctor's office). Or possibly the place got sued after someone bumped their head then when out and got some shopping center attorney to represent them. Any thoughts?

Hell, I noticed the gigantic glass wall that went all the way to the ceiling before I ever noticed that tiny little sign. Some people....

Wow. That's a curious little notion. I do wonder what made them put that sign up. I probably would've asked. I have asked places that have had odd signs up before what caused the obvious signage. I've found that everywhere I asked about signs that point out the obvious...the employee is more than willing to share a story that belongs among these posts.

I'll bet that sign went up...after some enraged dipshit tried to jump the counter..only to receive a faceplant from the glass

That's not the dumbest warning I've seen. Imagine this: "warning: do not use hair dryer in shower" or "Warning: do not use wheelbarow on highway"

I found a whole website full of the lawsuit preventors:

        I see dumb people...

"I think I died long ago, and you two are my eternal punishment"
        "..."
"You're like a constant downer, huh?"

My company prints "PERSONS WITH ALLERGIES, PLEASE READ THE INGREDIENT LISTING CAREFULLY." on labels printed in-store on prepared foods and bakery items, after the ingredient listing.

I dunno...nothing tops the "Caution: Conatins Small Parts" warning I found on a Frisbee.

I did actually see "Contains Nuts" on a packet of peanuts.

I think Bill Engval worked these sorts of signs into his "Here's Your Sign" routine, because after all, if there weren't stupid people, we wouldn't need these signs on everything.

Okay; this one is actually understandable. Despite the name, peanuts are not actual nuts... which can be important to a person with allergies.

                    Really, I'm not surprised...

I think that may be the stupidest sign I've heard of - though I always like the classic "When heated product may be hot" - but I can beat it for downright crazy and inexplicable.

My mother has in the last year had far far too many visits to a small hospital that is very specialised in breathing disorders etc. and has in it's waiting room a sign which says :

                      WHY WE ETHNICALLY MONITOR.

Underneath is a picture of Denzel Washington.

                      Nothing else. At all.

I've asked a lot of people about this one and no one so far has explained it satisfactorily. Current theories are that (a) they are attempting to check that each patient is not Denzel Washington (extremely unlikely this being the UK) and by getting everyone to state there ethnicity they have to check less forms. Opinion is divided as to whether they hope or fear one of their patients is in fact him. Or (b) that it's just an excuse to put up a picture of Denzel Washington because they just want to look at pictures of Denzel Washington.

That one I know, and that cashews are actually a seed, but they don't come close to the pistachios, brazils, and walnuts in packets I've seen with that warning.

My dad has a bathroom thing (can't remember what it is) that has "do not cut cord with scissors" on it, and nothing about not using the device while in the shower or under water or anything like that.

Of all the potential mis-uses... cutting with scissors wouldn't strike me as more likely than someone using it in the water.
