There's a payday loan place in the strip mall attached to the swamp. You know, one of those places you go to to get cash if you can't manage your finances, need cash and have no other options for getting it, or think "usury" is the name of the new death-metal band from Great Britain.

Thanks to the current suck-ass state of the economy, they've ramped up their advertising efforts. I've worked four days this week, and every day I've left work to find one of their flyers on my car.

On Monday, the flyer was stuck to the driver's window. (They're basically big printed Post-It notes.)
Wednesday, another flyer on the driver's window.
Yesterday, the flyer was stuck on my windshield. Variety.
And today, I found another flyer on the driver's window again.

I am pretty sure, though not certain, that the swamp has a no soliciting policy on it's portion of the parking lot. The strip mall may have a different policy, and if so they can go nuts on the cars in that section of the lot.

So help me, if I catch somebody from that place in the act of placing another one of their flyers on my car, I'm going to rip it off, walk right up to them, tear it up into little pieces and drop them at their feet.

Several years ago as I came out of a grocery store, I saw a kid putting a flyer on my car. I yelled at him to take it off, but an adult also putting flyers on cars yelled at him to leave it there. To the kid's credit, he took it off. I had previously spoken with the store's manager about the flyers, and was told they did not permit the distribution of flyers in their parking lot.

Why not collect several of them and paste them all over the door of the check cashing place ?

        Well....

If there is a clause in the lease on the property regarding the distribution of advertising fliers on parked cars, you could always call the property management people and see if they'll do something about it. Although having your store call them would carry more weight.

You might also consider looking into the local laws regarding the pamphleting of cars and see if maybe they aren't actually breaking a law you can get them fined over.

I second the option of contacting the property management company to see what can be done about that . . .and most businesses do have a "no solicitation" rule also (we make certain exceptions for those who are working with the local food banks, Girl Scouts and the local newspaper. But anyone looking to set up outside our sidewalk has to get an okay from Corporate first.)

I don't care who the business is . . . get an okay first before you distribute anything. Your "neighbors" are acting suckily and should be called on it.

But nicely . . . no matter how much you dislike their business, they're still going to be next door to you (unless something happens and they move.)

*sighs softly* On one route in one of my old offices the carrier had to deliver to 7 of those stores. He only covered eight city blocks with their side streets for his route.

Quick and easy solution: leave your OWN flyer on your windshield telling them in no uncertain terms what you will do to them if you come back and find any other flyer than your own on your car at the end of your shift.

I wish you could figure out which car in that lot belongs to the person who enacted the flyer policy. Revenge time...

Ee Gads, we get those all the time. Flyers, stickies, people handing-out info, owners parking their vehicles for weeks at the edge of the lot with a 4-sale sign. We always call the numbers and tell them to stop. It's hard to catch the bastards doing it thought; one minute there's no flyers, 5-min later every car is papered with them and you see a car screeching-off.

I'm usually the one picking them-up because they blow everywhere. It's not even my job, but I'm big on recycling.

Wouldn't said flyers being put on your car be construed as a form of vandalism?

IANAL, but I'd look into that...

Well, the payday loan place was at it again today, sticking more flyers on more vehicles. Including mine.

And as soon as somebody complained to the store manager about having a flyer stuck on their car, he called the police. FUCKING WIN!

Apparently the first complaints he got about this were at the beginning of April, he called the payday loan place and told them to stop putting up flyers, and they told him tough shit, no can do, the district manager wants us to do this, take it up with him. He told them that wasn't his responsibility; it was their responsibility to figure out which part of the parking lot belonged to the strip mall and thus would be fair game.

So the cops are going to talk to them and they'll either stop or engage us in a pissing match.
